Company information

Graham bought the Station after it had laid empty for over 20yrs, determined to bring it back to life. He retained its original charm whilst adding his own quirky style of using & repurposing whatever comes to hand, creating a very unique guest experience! He grew up not far away on his family farm in Lunga. Graham is a warm and generous host, who loves to chat and share his knowledge of this special area. He's been making guests feel welcome with typical Scottish style hospitality for the last 5 years.

Property information

You will receive a warm Highland welcome at this lovingly restored, working Victorian Railway Station. Built near Loch Awe in 1877 to serve the village of Dalmally, it was originally part of the Callander & Oban Railway. Dalmally is the last remaining Station House on the Oban branch of the West Highland Line. Your host Graham, has repurposed the original platform waiting rooms into 4 warm, cosy guest rooms. Each has original features and tokens of their historic past. The rooms have tea/coffee making facilitates, towels & bed linen, very comfortable beds & an outdoor/platform seating/eating area, perfect for watching the trains, passengers, birds, and occasional hens go by! To the side of the Station, is a very inviting Shepherd's hut, ideal for solo travellers. It also has tea/coffee making facilities, towels, bed linen & its own outdoor seating area. Two of the rooms have private W.C's with a hand basin (NO bath/shower) but all guests can use the creatively converted 'Ben Lui' - this has a wash basin, some toiletries, a hairdryer, a larger sink, a washing machine, 2 x W.C's, a drying creel, a microwave & a fantastic shower! The Station DOES NOT serve food or alcohol, only light, complimentary refreshments. PLEASE bring your own! We look forward to welcoming you!

Neighbourhood information

As you look down the tracks from the platform, Ben Cruachan rises beyond the Railway Bridge! Turn around to see Ben Lui, dominating the view! The Dalmally Horseshoe, also visible from the Station, boasts some spectacular sunrises & sunsets. Travel by train, bicycle, car, motorbike or on foot, Loch Awe is only a stones throw away! The 3rd largest Loch in Scotland, it's known for its trout fishing and is a haven for wildlife, with red deer, pine martens and otters. The famous Scottish wildcat is often spotted. Oban, Inveraray, Tyndrum, Killin, Tarbut, Aberfoyle, Kilmartin & Callander are all easily within 25-45 miles of Dalmally. Glasgow is 73 miles away. Travel by car, bus or hop on a train, directly from your room! With Glencoe, Glenfinnan Viaduct & Loch Lomond all around an hour away, it really is a fantastic location for exploring some Highland gems! Top Tips: Duncan Ban MacIntyre Monument, Loch Awe, Kilchurn Castle, St Conan's Kirk, Cruachan Power Station, Duck Bay, the Hill House & Crinan Canal. Glen View Stores is only a 5-10 minute walk away from the Station. It sells a wide variety of items you'd expect from a grocery shop but in addition, some very fine, fresh and locally produced goods too! The nearest supermarkets are the Co-Op in Inveraray, a 25 minute drive, and there's a Tesco, Lidl and an Aldi in Oban, a 45 minute drive away. Local places to eat: Ben Cruachan Inn, Dalmally (bar and restaurant, the nearest & my personal favourite) The Green Welly Stop (their Cullen Skink is legendary!) the Real Food Café (can get busy) Tyndrum, the Drovers Inn (an experience...well worth a visit!) Inverarnan, the Samphire Restaurant & the Cottage, Inveraray, The Oyster Inn restaurant, Connel. PLEASE telephone in advance to check availability, opening times & to book, especially April to September!! A 45 minute drive to Oban would give you the usual choices/ranges you'd expect in a town with everything from chip shops & kebabs to fine dining!
