The house has a wonderfully calm, welcoming atmosphere and retains many historic features. 4 bedrooms, sleeps up to 7 (2 rooms with king size beds, 1 room x 2 single beds plus one single bedroom), family bathroom, shower room, downstairs WC. Well equipped kitchen with Aga & double electric oven, dining room, living room, study, utility room, smart tv with Netflix. Secure bike storage. Hawes & Askrigg 5 miles. Children welcome. Midday/12pm checkout offered on Sundays. Please note; you need to enter '4 bedrooms' in your search, otherwise the house can show no availability. 1 bedroom cottage, Beebole Cottage, opposite main house (sleeps 2), can be booked separately or jointly with main house (has its own entrance and back garden) No caravans or motorhomes. Not suitable for those with mobility restrictions due to steps inside house and by car park. Strictly no more than 7 guests overnight, no events, parties or stag parties. Strictly no pets, sorry.
We pride ourselves on offering stylish, comfortable and welcoming accommodation for all of our guests. The house is cleaned to a very high standard and has professionally laundered linen. We can accommodate up to 9 guests, when Beebole Cottage, opposite, is also booked with the main house (sleeps 2 with king size bed) - see our other listing. The hall was home to Richard Robinson in the 1650s who introduced Quakerism to the Dales and it is rumoured that Mary Queen of Scots stayed at the hall for one night en route to Bolton Castle in 1568. Parts of the house date back to the 12th century. The hall has a wonderfully calm, peaceful atmosphere. Food scene; we can recommend the King's Arms pub or The Crown in Askrigg, The Yorebridge House Hotel restaurant and Simonstone Hotel restaurant, The Wensleydale Heifer at West Witton for dinner, the Bake-well Cafe in Askrigg, Fish and chips in Hawes. Elijah Allen in Hawes sells excellent local produce. Please note: guest fees added here after you click 'reserve'. Search Countersett Hall for further info. Children of all ages welcome, you are welcome to bring a travel cot.
Countersett is a tiny, peaceful hamlet, located close to the stunning Lake Semerwater, it is the perfect place to 'get away from it all' and is noted for its peace and quiet. There are numerous walks and castles, stately homes, waterfalls etc within easy reach of the house. There's fishing, water sports including paddle boarding and kayaking at Lake Semerwater nearby (5 minutes' walk), alpaca trekking and there are stables up the road offering riding lessons and trekking. The Dales agricultural shows throughout the summer and early autumn are well worth a visit. There is plenty of local information at the hall. The house is situated in a very peaceful and private location, but only 5 minutes' drive from Bainbridge, or 5 minutes' from Askrigg and 10 minutes from Hawes. Wensleydale is considered to be one of the most beautiful parts of the Dales by many. The house is encircled by richly planted gardens, teeming with wildlife. The night skies are a sight to behold in this area of minimal light pollution. There is an excellent restaurant at Yorebridge House Hotel, 5 minutes drive from the house and cosy pubs at Bainbridge, Askrigg & Hawes serving hearty meals. Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda all deliver to the house. There are shops in Hawes selling fantastic local produce too. Nearest large supermarkets are at Catterick.
