Betsey Trotwood is a beautifully renovated stable at The Rookery, Blundeston fictional home of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. It successfully combines contemporary luxury with period features to provide charming pet-friendly self-catering accommodation with private courtyard, easy parking and AGA cooker. On the edge of an idyllic village between Lowestoft and Gorleston, it is close to sandy beaches, the Broads, Suffolk Heritage Coast and North Norfolk. Ideal for families, couples or work. The Rookery of Blundeston is famous for being the birthplace of Dickens' "David Copperfield", which was his favourite book. In the novel, David spent his early life in the Rookery before being sent off to to a workhouse by his evil stepfather Mr Murdstone. We named “Betsey Trotwood” after David’s eccentric great-aunt and it is part of the Rookery’s former stable block and, along with a gym and office, is attached to the original coach house. The cottage is opposite the main house and is very secure and private. You can enjoy complete privacy in the secluded courtyard garden with table, chairs, and BBQ at the back and have an allocated parking space on the drive.
Hi, we own a couple of lovely holiday lets on the Norfolk and Suffolk border between the East Coast and Norfolk Broads. Born and bred in the area, we love travel, good food, and making sure people have a great time. Over our years of hosting guests we have learnt our area is perfect for whatever type of break you enjoy. If you want to chill in peace with a good book then we are in the countryside on the grounds of an old Rectory with a lovely garden and fields all around. If you cycle then then there are lots of options from the doorstep. Within a 40 minute drive you can go inland to Norwich, hit the North Norfolk Coast, explore Southwold and the Heritage Coast, and visit numerous attractions around the area. Our guests are always amazed by the amount.
Betsey has a number of charming walks direct from the property either around the village or off across the beautiful Halvergate Marshes towards the Norfolk Broads and Somerleyton. A short easy drive away are numerous beaches for seals, sunbathing, dog walking, coffee or strolling. Wildlife at Breydon Water, Carlton Marshes and Lound Lakes Nature Reserves, and others are all around. Somerleyton Hall and its Yew Maze is down the road, and the whole Norfolk Broads are accessible from various points very nearby. Take out a boat or canoe and disappear. For day trips, the upper North Norfolk coast is only an hour away; the glitz of Great Yarmouth seafront 20 mins; Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park (2 miles); Africa Alive (4 miles); drive south to the Suffolk Heritage Coast, Southwold (16 miles), Aldeburgh (30 miles), the Latitude Festival (each July), and inland to Norwich (24 miles). We offer a delightful quiet relaxing central base to sample endless exploration. Blundeston is in between the towns of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft right on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, so we also offer quality accommodation for contractors working in the area (Oil/Gas, Windfarm or other).
