Lovely big room with comfortable armchairs, so much better for watching television than having to sit on the bed. Amazing views. excellent breakfasts.

Andrew and Jayne ( centre ) receiving their White Rose Award
Andrew and Jayne bought Ackroyd House in 1986, with no driveway, no gardens and with the ( now ) bed and breakfast wing totally derilict. Over the next fifteen or so years ( and a lot of hard work and late nights ! ) the driveway arrived, the gardens started taking shape and the main part of the house was almost finished. The arrival of the bed and breakfast actually happened by chance. Our eldest was starting at Bath University so we booked a band b in Bath for two days, to look around Bath for a day and then have a day at the university before leaving Kristian to fend for himself ! ( Que floods of tears from Jayne ! ) It was during the second day of our trip that Jayne casually said " We could do this ! ) This set wheels turning in our heads, and after a lot of thought we had a site meeting with The Yorkshire Tourist Board, who thought that with the " Top of The World " location and views " To die for" our location would be ideal for a Bed and Breakfast. We decided to go ahead with the renovation of The Bed and Breakfast wing in August 2006 and opened for business in September 2007, with two Suites, The ground Floor Stable Suite and The First Floor Valley View Suite Enjoy!
With just under two acres of grounds to look after, it will be no surprise that the main hobby for both of us is GARDENING !!! That aside,Jayne is also a qualified florist and puts her hand to Wedding and Funeral flowers, and Christmas wreaths, arrangements etc Andrew is a little bit sadder and concentrates on the computer side of things and following his beloved Leeds United when he gets the chance !
Ackroyd House, set in just under two acres of lawned and walled gardens, is situated at the very top of " Top O' Th' Bank " so has 360 degree panoramic views of the surrounding Valleys and The Peak District National Park in the distance.Peace and tranquility are just two reasons to keep coming back to Ackroyd House . Our Village of Thurstonland is a five minute walk from Ackroyd House, with a lovely Local Pub, ( with award winning home made food and local " Micro Brewery " Beers ) a very traditional Village Cricket Club and......er.....not much more, apart from spectacular walks, stunning views and a gateway to what West Yorkshire has to offer ! The " Last of The Summer Wine" Town of Holmfirth is just under two miles from Ackroyd House, with restaurants serving food from all over the Globe Going further afield,Leeds,Sheffield and Manchester are all about an hour away or less, which opens up a whole new area for your enjoyment ! Oh,and just a thought, you could be at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in an hour.......( Just don't tell the kids if you don't like roller coasters !!! )
