Brock Cottage is an idyllic base for exploring the Lake District and Cumbria's south and west coasts. Nestled in a historic cobbled courtyard, this romantic cottage is a moment's walk from the Georgian square and the pubs, restaurants and shops of Broughton-in-Furness. Our 18th Century cottage has beams and an open fire. The bench in the courtyard, and the rear seating area with barbeque overlooking gardens both catch the sun at different times of day, making this the ideal place to relax. The cottage (3 storeys immediately to the left of the archway) dates from the 1750s, with a slate floor in the living room. The open fire is set for a cosy night in, with a full coal scuttle provided. Additional fuel is available from the garage in Broughton. There is a bike locking point under the archway. A high chair, travel cot and stair gate on the ground floor are provided. Zip & link super-kingsize bed available as alternative to 2 singles in first floor room - please let me know if you would like this. I can also set up the sofa bed in the snug on the first floor instead of one of the singles if guests prefer separate rooms or for a 5th guest (additional charge). There is a toilet on this floor. The double bed is on the second floor along with the bathroom. Parties are not permitted. Up to 2 dogs welcome downstairs only: please use stair gate! (let me know if you are bringing a dog when you book).
I love the Lake District! I enjoy walking and camping with friends and family, travelling abroad and in the UK. I play classical, traditional and jazz violin, and host a monthly traditional music session in Ulverston, as well as playing in other local sessions. I can e-mail you the comprehensive information pack prior to your stay including my contact number and things to do in the surrounding area, please ask. You can borrow the waterproof OS 1:25000 Explorer maps during your stay, covering the whole Lake District. Please ring me if there are any issues - I prefer to sort things out as soon as possible rather than you leave feeling unhappy!
Broughton has a Georgian square complete with stocks, and two pubs, one serving food. The town was featured in the BBC series The "A" Word. There is a café on the square, the award-winning bakery also has a café, and the butcher and village store with delicatessen both feature local produce. You can walk from the door, including round the grounds of Broughton Tower, there is a children's play park, and a tennis court able to be booked if you are feeling sporty. Foxfield station is 2 miles away, and taxis are available (details in the cottage information pack). The cottage library has details of bike routes nearby, including some from the door. There is a bike locking point under the archway. A car is essential for exploring the Lakes and attractions nearby. The picturesque Duddon Valley is close by, Muncaster Castle and Ravenglass (30 minute drive) make a great day out, boats are available for hire at Coniston (20-minute drive), which is also a great place for a walk up to the Coppermines or Coniston Old Man and neighbouring mountains.
