Casa Gloria has an exceptional sea view and one of the most panoramic views across the Atlantic Ocean on the island! It's also great for star-gazing and astronomy as you can see from the photos. Part of Finca Franceses, a small holding of 7,500 sq.m., this traditional Canarian house has the use of the stone-built bodega with guitars. Casa Gloria is made of stone from the surrounding area and tea wood from the pine forest mountains. We have kept it as original as possible and you will love the ambience of this traditional house! In particular, our guests love the big Victorian-style bath! For added convenience, we can provide a separate studio with patio which can be used as an office or for yoga, music, writing or for naturists. Please make sure to let us know in advance if you would like to make use of this facility.
One rainy day in January 2002 we (Ann and David) left York, North Yorkshire for the Canary Islands in search of 'somewhere special.' With a one-way flight ticket from Manchester to Tenerife, we had sold our home, put our furniture into storage and set off clutching our suitcases and aspirations. Little did we know that it would take 5 months of searching! Needless to say, it was a somewhat longer adventure than we had planned ... ... as a result of which we traveled to each and every one of the Canary Islands in our quest. But we met many lovely people along the way and learnt a lot about the Islands and renting houses and apartments. On La Palma we stayed in both the east and the west for six weeks at a time, but still couldn't find exactly what we were looking for. In our spare time we walked many routes on the island and we also joined a local walking group who took us on great adventures such as the natural springs of los Tilos, the GR130 and GR131. However, although it was an interesting learning curve, we did start to wonder just when we could unpack our suitcases for the last time. And then someone mentioned a house in the north for sale.
The nearest attraction is La Zarza 20 minutes by car. This is an information and exhibition centre which depicts how people lived in caves. You can also walk through the forested park and see the original rock engravings and caves. 12 minutes by car is the old port of La Fajana de Garafia. You can walk on the rocky beach or sit or lay on the small sandy area. It is not suitable for swimming though. The nearest swimming is at La Fanana de Barlovento 30 minutes by car. In the summer you can swim in the sea but year round, you can swim in the sea pools. Bring your mask and snorkel, or swimming goggles, because the water is clear and there are plenty of fish! Definitely try the local food at the Los Reyes restaurant 15 minutes away by. They serve Canarian soup, goat, rabbit and goat cheese and fabulous deserts. Plus pork from La Palma cooked on wood. Another good restaurant is La Mata just 5 minutes from Los Reyes. The Roque de Muchachos is a 'must do' sight! This is where the observatories are and is the highest point of the island. If you would like to look around the observatories, make your booking in advance. It takes 50 minutes by car from La Casita.
