National Park

Honestly, the best hostel I've ever stayed at! The owners were the most welcoming, loving and caring people. They made sure to talk to everyone, they even remembered the names of every single person who stayed there at the moment. The whole place was super clean and well kept. Kitchen had everything you need for cooking. The living room is amazing to hang out, watch tv, play games or get to know the other guests (and make some new friends!). Would highly recommend staying there. You would not be disappointed!
Ohakune
Situated in the town of Ohakune, on the edge of Tongariro National Park, LKNZ Lodge & Cafe is within 5 minutes' walk of restaurants, bars and shops. It features a sauna, hot tubs and an on-site cafe. The property offers a range of accommodation from budget dormitories to private rooms spread over 3 lodges and complimentary unlimited WiFi. Insane value for your money. Had the twin room with bathroom. Cute kitchenette included, good beds, warm. Free parking included. The Café downstairs has fair prices for what you can get and the personnel is super friendly. We Germans don't say "Amazing!" very often, but when we do, we mean it. Cheers and thanks for having us.
National Park
Set in National Park, 15 km from Mount Ruapehu, National Park Backpackers offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and barbecue facilities. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen and luggage storage space for guests. Hotel was in a very good location where all the facilities like Petrol station, Grocery shopping within walking distance. The shared kitchen is maintained well and rules are clearly written for everyone to follow. Pick up option for Tongariro crossing shuttle was at their doorstep which was helpful.

Cleanest hostel we have stayed in, easy late check in, really fun layout, and centrally located.

Based by the Lake offers basic dormitory-style rooms or private guest bedrooms with ensuite facilities. All of the accommodation is clean and modern and linen is included. Communal facilities include a shared kitchen. You can also soak up the sun on the sundeck which features views of the mountains. I enjoyed the location, the dorm, view from there, facilities. All was great
Erua
Located in Erua, within 21 km of Mount Ruapehu and 22 km of Taranaki Falls, The Crossing Lodge & Backpackers provides accommodation with a shared lounge and free WiFi throughout the property as well as free private parking for guests who drive. Featuring family rooms, this property also provides guests with a sun terrace. The accommodation features a shared kitchen and a 24-hour front desk for guests. We had all the basic for an accomodation - heater, gas, refrigerator, etc. The rooms were very clean and tidy. The owner is very accomodating to our needs.

Great location for what we wanted to do. Good facilities, backpackers kitchen, bar, restaurant and lounge areas to relax in. Spa pool was nice.
Great location. Best shower we’ve ever had. Great temperature and pressure. Coffee for a plunger and real milk. Warm room. Secure locking if rooms so we felt safe.
Big hostel but the manager keeps the capacity limited, so that your dorm is never full - max. 2-3 people per dorm! Cute cat and dog onsite. I could borrow a bicycle for free! You can also book Tongariro transport very cheaply. The best WiFi I've encountered in a long time. If you need to do something online, this is your place!
Location is fantastic and facilities are basic for a cheap stay.
Perhaps the most comfortable bed we‘ve ever slept in. We slept like babies despite the fact that we had to get up at 5 am to catch a shuttle to Tongariro. We arrived late and were able to check in via a keybox. Aside from that it‘s more like a Youth Hostel. All needed facilities can be found. Power plugs are working. It‘s no luxury, but for the price a solid place to rest your limbs.
Great courtyard set-up which felt safe with a relaxed vibe.Everything seemed to work and staff were very helpful. Grateful for a discount with my Scottish Youth Hostel card.
Really like the privacy of curtains on the bunk beds and how sturdy they were. Also the convenience of a plug in each bunk for charging devices safely. lockable cupboards for possessions were good. The hostel had a welcoming and friendly vibe and good for socialising but not too loud late in the night too, so a great balance as a solo traveller. Facilities clean and tidy, cleaned well every morning.

great location. Good restaurant for breakfast and dinner. this is a budget place but is great value for money. it accommodates backpackers and our room was near the shared kitchen and dining room which was a a bit noisy. do not go there for Fancy but for the location and staff friendliness
Skotel is in the most beautiful location - the wilderness is on the doorstep.... just step outside and start hiking. The staff are wonderful, the rooms are great (either backpacker budget or hotel style) and the restaurant is 10/10. Room prices and restaurant prices are excellent value - nothing like city prices here! This was my third visit to Skotel - I look forward to it every time. It is also a great place to meet new people - guests mingle easily and share their day in the wonderful environment of the National Park.
