The staff was friendly and the place was safe and clean.
I like the big kitchen and the garden.

Hahei
Situated in Hahei, 1.9 km from Hahei Beach, Tatahi Cove Back Packer features accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a shared lounge. This 4-star hostel offers a shared kitchen. The property is non-smoking and is located 2.5 km from Mare's Leg Beach. Gentleman was very friendly. He lent me a shovel and explained the right times to go to Hot Water Beach. Also gave a heads up that the carpark for Cathedral Cove was closed.
Waitomo Caves

Featuring free shuttle service, this property also provides guests with a sun terrace. The hostel features an outdoor swimming pool and a shared kitchen and free WiFi. Beautiful environment, useful facilities, … and most importantly: cleanliness. This was the cleanest hostel we’ve stayed at (we’ve been to many around the N island). Best spice of the place: Dave, his unique sense of humor and his lovely dog :)
National Park

Tracy and her husband know how to host backpackers and I hightly recommend this lovely place ! Perfect to go on the Tongariro for hiking and also discovering others activities around.
I will definitely go back !
National Park
Set in National Park, 15 km from Mount Ruapehu, National Park Backpackers offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and barbecue facilities. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen and luggage storage space for guests. Absolutely amazing stay. Room was clean and nice. Big double bed and one single bed. Really nice kitchen with all you need to prepare your food. A lot of fridges to storw your food. Shuttle bus for Tongariro Alpine crossing stops hear. Free parking and you can stay here during your hike across Tongariro and take shower after you will come in shared bathroom. So nice staff in here and very helpful and friendly. 10/10

Taupo
Based by the Lake offers basic dormitory-style rooms or private guest bedrooms with ensuite facilities. All of the accommodation is clean and modern and linen is included. Communal facilities include a shared kitchen. You can also soak up the sun on the sundeck which features views of the mountains. Location was close to the lake, the food, the supermarket, everything. Amenities (kitchen and laundry) were clean and well thought out. Enjoyed the girls only dorm with the extra perk of a private balcony.
The lodge is bright and colourful. We had our own bunk room which was close to the bathrooms. The kitchen was big with lots of utensils. Great location for anyone doing the Tongariro Crossing or exploring the National Park. Adjacent bar was fun to pop in to and staff at both the hostel and bar were very friendly. Can highly recommend catching sunrise, the stars and sunset.
supernice hostel with great people, big & clean kitchen, a lot of space to sit inside and outside, cheap bike rental, staff is great, beds are very private with a lot of space - loved it!

The location was good. Pretty sunset views from the hostel garden. Free parking was very convenient. Cheap stay. Kayak and surfboard rentals were available.
Really like the privacy of curtains on the bunk beds and how sturdy they were. Also the convenience of a plug in each bunk for charging devices safely. lockable cupboards for possessions were good. The hostel had a welcoming and friendly vibe and good for socialising but not too loud late in the night too, so a great balance as a solo traveller. Facilities clean and tidy, cleaned well every morning.
It is a real backpackers and not just a bed space! It's set in the beautiful village of Raglan. The hostel offers a seated area with a view over the water. There are super facilities and areas where one can socialise. The staff are friendly and efficient. I have stayed here several times. Book early as it is very popular and there are very few budget properties in Raglan.
Good center location. 2 streets back from the water front. Plenty nearby places to eat and drink and get coffee and close to water sport tourist attractions. Others, a walk or quick drive such as Huka Falls and hot pools. The hostel is as to be expected if marked as a 3 star accomadation. Clean enough, safe feeling, cheap accomadation in convenient location but very basic. Bedding included, but you should bring towels and toiletries.
great location. Good restaurant for breakfast and dinner. this is a budget place but is great value for money. it accommodates backpackers and our room was near the shared kitchen and dining room which was a a bit noisy. do not go there for Fancy but for the location and staff friendliness
The best hostel kitchen we've seen - really big space with enough hobs, pots and pans etc for multiple people to cook at once. Lots of fridge space. Very Clean. Lots of fridge space. Great views. Well heated bedroom. Easy check in. Parking on site (although pretty crammed and we did get blocked in by another car). Great location near the centre of town.
A great location but it is a really tired motel I would probably call a backpackers standard. It was very clean but there are funny extension chords and multi packs all over the place not giving a sense of safety….. reception were really efficient and friendly….. a nice stay but I didn’t think it value for money
