Nagaoka
Set in Nagaoka, within 500 metres of Nagaoka Station and 4.6 km of Yukyuzan Small Animal Zoo, ゲストハウス長岡街宿 offers accommodation with free bikes and a shared lounge, and free WiFi. It has an elevator which is especially useful if you have a large luggage. The female dorm had more than 20 beds, but it was quiet. The curtains on each capsule provided privacy, and its attached locker/cabinet provided security. The locker/cabinet had hangers and a shelf space, and could even accommodate a large luggage. Inside the capsule is a light and a power outlet. A shoe locker and slippers are also provided. The female dorm had its own common area with a TV, mirror, refrigerator, microwave, and water heater. For the female dorm, there were 3 shower rooms, 4 toilets, 4 sinks, 4 hairdryers. Washing machine and dryer are also available for a fee (300 for the washing machine, and 100/30minutes for the dryer).
Sado

This is a small ryokan with ensuite toilets in every room run by a friendly and obliging elderly couple in great location 1km from Alpenblick skifield and 400m from Alpenblick spa with its famous black water pools and great Japanese restaurant. There is not a shared bathroom in the western sense, but a simple but authentic private onsen in house. The hot water and teabags and snacks in the corridor were much appreciated as was the hot drink and biscuits at reception on returning from skiing .
Great location easily accessible by the free shuttle bus from Echigo Yuzawa station to the Hatsukaishi entrance of the Ishiuchi Maruyama resort. Ski lift and rental shop at your doorstep which saves a lot of travelling time. Friendly and helpful staff.

Great location, 5 mins walk to JR Train Station and bus terminal. Cheap and good breakfast. Room is spacious. Decent hotel for budget traveller.
Convenient location which was near Sendai Station, and the price per night is fairly cheap. Pretty much what you can expect from these type of hostels.
