First things first: this is a welcoming place. I enjoyed my short time at Kotohira a lot and a huge reason for that was the friendly and relaxed atmosphere at the guesthouse. The host (heart and soul of this traditional house in central location) is a bubbly and passionate traveller himself that has seen so many places in Japan and around the world. He is really interested in your own experiences while you travel in the region and he can give you a lot of recommendations. Even though this guest house is in the north of Shikoku, he provided me with travel and commuting advices for Hokkaido.
And: I loved the traditional house in central but quiet location. My roomy female dormitory (for 2 people) was lovely decorated. It felt a bit like in a treasure museum. The bath facilities are modern and the kitchen is well equipped (free coffee).
So, if you wanna stay in a friendly place where you can recharge travel energy and get freshly inspired, pick this guest house.

We loved everything! The staff, the breakfast, the food, the location. Honestly do yourselves a favour and have dinner at the hostel. The chef is wonderful and really makes an effort. One of us is coeliac and he made gluten free (not so easy in Japan).

Great location, great manager. Next to great sake place . It’s a perfect place to go out and explore the island art from and the village the hostel is in is great to walk around.
Perfectly fine as budget accomodation if you’re planning on spending most of your time out and about looking at the art. More of a hostel vibe- one shared toilet and shower, rice paper screens as walls so not much privacy or light/soundproofing. The staff was super helpful in giving us directions from the other port via bus. The location is perfect, check out Luke’s pizza around the corner!
This was the only true hostel I stayed at while in Japan but the host was extremely nice, and also unusually good at English which made for some nice small talk. Gave me some nice travel tips and food recommendations. The room is nothing spectacular, I checked in relatively early so had a choice of which bunk to take. Facilities are all solid, there are clean showers and also some free tea/water. I spent very little time in the hostel itself in the end beyond sleeping but it was perfectly adequate and incredibly cheap too.
The lady who has the guesthouse is really nice and helpful. The rooms are basic, but spacious, very comfortable and everything is tidy and clean. Great value and great location for discovering Naoshima and the other islands. Onsen just down the street and a few nice, local restaurants around. Great for budget travelers.

I love everything about the hostel! The hostel is near from so many things! Good restaurants, Honmura port, Bus stop, and tourism spots. Definitely a great location! The staffs were kind and very accomodating. I came in the morning and the staff let me did the check-in earlier! The highlight of my stay, of course, is the cat! He was very cute and well-mannered! I love him!
