Lugano
Guests enjoy free use of all public transport in Ticino during their stay, as well as discounts on several leisure facilities. Please note that a daily surcharge applies to guests who are not members of the Youth Hostel Association. Very friendly staff who made me feel welcomed not only to the hostel but also to the city. Ticino ticket that enables free public transport is a really good invention and I suggest strongly other tourists to use it.
Lugano
The Hotel&Hostel Montarina occupies a historic Villa built around 1860, only 200 metres from the Lugano train station. It offers a park with a pool, free WiFi and a limited number of free parking spaces. The location was great right near the train station and bus walking distance to the city and attraction And the price is good too
Carona
The Casa Calina is a newly renovated guest house with a large garden in a quiet location in Carona, with beautiful views over Lake Lugano. Free Wi-Fi is available.
Each room at Casa Calina has its own terrace offering superb views of the mountains of Ticino, Lake Lugano and the surrounding area. 3 rooms share a common bathroom. A kitchen and dining room for the guest's use are available as well.
The location is a bit remote from the city of Lugano, but the views are wonderful and it's surrounded by nature.
The house itself is very cozy, welcoming and well maintained.
Comfortable stay, the rooms are simple but good for the price. Suggest asking for a room that is not interconnecting so a little quieter. Staff were really friendly and although we didn’t have breakfast ( we were on bikes and on a very tight budget) they offered us a coffee before we left. Safe place to put bikes.
They have stove and microwave right in the room, it's amazing for budget backpacker who don't mild self-catering

Very good breakfast. Great location between lakes. Triple room is excellent for kids - large room with nice mountain view. Free parking in safe area.
Montarina is a clean, well managed low-budget hostel in the Heart of Lugano. It is located in a lovely private garden and close to the city center. Recommendable to families with younger children, young couples, singles and aging people who are still young in spirit.
Price/ quality is okay. Tourist tax 4,5 per person per night on top It is indeed one of the cheapest option to stay overnight in Lugano, if you don't want to sleep in a dormitory room. Reachable from the train station. Own bathroom and room is okay to stay a few nights.
Safe area near the city centre of Lugano! Exceptional staff who gave us tips on where to go in Lugano and gave us Ticino tickets to travel the area. Fair, budget option which has a microwave and kettle to use (other facilities require an extra payment of 15 chf). Great that we could also use the laundry room equipped with washing machines and dryers.
Hostel has a nice swimming pool and relaxing area around it. Great location for travelers, in front of the station
