Just 900 metres from Grey River, a popular swimming spot, Brunnerton Lodge and Backpackers offers free Wi-Fi and free bicycle rental. Located in a historic miner’s pub, it features rooms with lovely garden and mountain views.

My partner and I both absolutely loved brunnerton lodge. It's a lovely small, personal place and we felt at home straight away. Not like one of those modern big hostels without a soul, but a small lodge, warm-hearted people and a beautiful garden. Very close to greymouth and the price was absolutely great!

Noah's Ark Backpackers is a historical ex-monastery, centrally located and boasting panoramic city, sea and sunset views. It features stained glass windows, native timber paneling and original wall paintings done by New Zealand Artists. The property offers hostel accommodation with free WiFi and is just 3-minutes' walk from Greymouth's town centre, TranzAlpine Railway Station and bus stop.

It was in a good location, the rooms were all themed, it was good value for money.

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

Second time staying at the Global Village, and it's still one of the best hostels in NZ. It's clean, it's comfortable, it's got good vibes and it's quiet. It's a well run ship.

It's a lovely hostel, a bit further away from the train station and city centre but they offer you a ride if you come or leave by bus so it's not a big deal. There is also a supermarket quite close. Staff is very friendly, common spaces are clean. Rooms are spacious, bunk beds are good. Would recommend.

The room was private and very spacious for a backpackers. The beds were pretty comfortable too. The staff were very friendly and helpful and overall it was a good property with lots of space. Honestly, this was one of the best hostels we had stayed at in terms of overall experience. It was also nice that they spread people out a bit and didn't try to cram everyone into the same space when it wasn't fully booked.
