All rooms in the hostel are fitted with a coffee machine. The rooms include a shared bathroom, a bidet and a hairdryer, and some rooms at Couch Potato Hostel have a safety deposit box. All units have bed linen.

The common room is cozy and makes you fell comfortable eating or hanging there. The kitchen is well equipped and you get free tea and coffee. The host was super welcoming and he gives us plenty of recommendations of things to do in the city. The Japanese style comfort room was nice, and the futons with huge blankets were very warm and comfortable. There were multiple showers and toilet, and they were all very clean. Finally, the location is perfect, just 3 minutes from the castle, and 15min from the train/bus station.

A lovely traditional onsen/ryokan in a town not far from Matsumoto City. The room and hotel was very clean and quiet, and it was only minutes away from the bus stop to Matsumoto City. There were hiking trails up the hill, and the onsen temperature was perfect for relaxing. The staff were very kind and caring.

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

Brian and the staff made everything so the guest would feel at home! The shared spaces are very inviting. The kitchen, the showers, and the dorms are very clean and comfortable. The hostel is in a great location near the JR Station but also in a queit area near the river

Great facilities, everything new, modern and spotlessly clean. Huge wooden bunk beds in the dorms which are much more spacious than the usual hostel dorm beds. Perfect location on a main shopping street. Helpful, friendly staff and a nice common room to meet other guests. I've stayed in a lot of hostels and this is was perhaps my favourite ever in terms of comfort.

Best bunk beds, matresses and (supersoft) bedsheets I've had during my entire stay in Japan. Very comfortable, large beds and the indoor air climate of the dorms is well controlled. Bathrooms are clean and common kitchen is well equipped. Location is perfect, close to main attractions and still only 15 mins walking from the train station (but Matsumoto is not that big anyway). The street is a pedestrian little shopping street, so very quiet at night as well. I loved my stay and would recommend this hostel to anyone going to Matsumoto.

Very friendly hostel, in a great location not too far from Matsumoto castle. Rooms are Japanese style, with lots of space in the dorms. I had a large suitcase with me and there was plenty of storage space for it beside my futon! Lovely staff as well, great vibe in the hostel overall.

The room was well equipped with cheap video on demand, free WiFi, a phone, safe, kettle, amenities in the lobby such as razors & toothbrushes and the shower having both a handheld head and rainfall style was incredible. The vending machines and clothes washing facilities in the lobby were useful and the staff were very polite and nice.

Absolutely brilliant hostel. We loved it. Everything about the place had been thoughtfully arranged. Our traditional room was great. The shared facilities spotlessly clean. The kitchen and lounge area lovely. Facilities for leaving our luggage before check in and the free bikes all just added to the pleasure of our stay. Great location. Highly recommended.

The hostel is in a great location and so quiet. The staff are really helpful, but best of all you could feel the history of the place. We are a family of four (two boys aged 13 & 11) and all thought it was the best hostel we’ve stayed at - friendlier, more fun and better than many hotels. Would stay there happily again.
