Situated in the Cumbrian countryside, conveniently located to visit the Lake District, YHA Helvellyn has on-site free parking and a bar. The nearest village, Glenridding, is a 6-minute drive from the hostel.

I emailed saying that we might be late for check in due to traffic. The manager replied promptly and tried to help me if the other YHA branch in Ambleside have an availability. However, there were no availabilities so we did our best to arrive on time. At exactly 10pm, we arrived on the post code but it was not the right place. There were some signal issues but in the end, the manager met us and directed us where to go and checked us in even after 10pm. For this, we are very grateful. 😊

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travelers know there's no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: Save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a little more.

The horse and farrier looks so picturesque and a great location for what we needed. The barman and Dave were really friendly and made an effort to make the stay nice. The two ladies on breakfast service were lovely as was the breakfast!

Excellent location close to the heart of Threlkeld. Lovely views over adjacent houses to the fells beyond from many of the rooms. Good showers in main bathroom and en suite. Lovely big rooms both upstairs and downstairs. Well equipped kitchen. Plenty of comfortable seating and a nice little set of outdoor chairs and table. Private parking was very convenient and we were actually able to keep three cars (hatchbacks)close to the house and safe.

It's a cheap stay but it feels anything like that; the beds are comfortable, the staff are very nice and helpful, the view is amazing, and the pub serves really good food.
