Highmains, hotel in Castle Douglas

Boasting mountain views, Highmains offers accommodation with a garden and a patio, around 12 km from Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club.

The accommodation is actually a large annexe to the main house, with its own private entrance into the sitting/dining area, with fabulous views out over the Scottish landscape, with sheep and cows grazing. Very quiet and peaceful and an ideal spot for a decent night’s sleep. The bedroom was huge and one of the comfiest beds ever! Everything was perfect, a home from home with everything you could possible need. Continental breakfast was provided with so much choice and was ready waiting for us when we checked in. We were en route to take the ferry from Cairnryan back to Ireland and it was around an hour and a half’s drive from the port, yet only a few minutes from the main A75. We were able to sit out in the garden and enjoy the sunshine when we arrived which was a bonus. We will definitely stay here again.

This was my second stay at woodland house hotel. Last was with my wife and this time a golf trip with the boys. It was my responsibility to choose the hotel and had no hesitation in choosing this place. We were not disappointed. The staff food rooms atmosphere were all outstanding. I’ll be back again soon. Highly recommend it.

Woodlyn Guest House, hotel in Castle Douglas

Situated in Gatehouse of Fleet, Woodlyn Guest House offers accommodation with free WiFi and flat-screen TV, as well as a tennis court and golf courses situated within easy walking distance.

Our room was beautiful, spacious and modern. The guesthouse is in a very quiet location. Our hosts Kevin and Nikki were extremely helpful and friendly and they cook up a great breakfast. We stayed for two nights and, after exploring the surrounding region each day, we enjoyed two lovely dinners at The Murray Arms and The Ship Inn. On both occasions, the food was excellent and the staff were courteous and friendly.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Spotlessly clean. Excellent value for money with a good breakfast in the morning. Met some great locals too and had plenty of laughs over several pints.

The accommodation was spacious, comfortable, well presented and in a great location with easy on street parking. With 2 of our party having mobility issues, we were a little concerned about how we would cope with the stairs, but the treads are shallow making them easy for us to manage. Being above a cafe, there is always a delicious smell of freshly ground coffee! Gillian is a lovely host and the welcome gifts she gave us were generous and delicious 😋

The room was beautiful, the attention to detail in the decoration was amazing. James and Tobias were lovely hosts who were happy to answer any questions asked of them. The history of the castle and grounds is very interesting. Their plans for the future of the castle and buildings were lovely to listen to and would be good to see. I would have loved to have been able to stay longer
