National Park
Built in 1912 and offering budget, backpacker-style accommodation in a charming historic building, National Park Alpine Lodge features free WiFi in communal areas and both Netflix and satellite channels in the shared lounge area. It is located in National Park Village, 25 km from Mount Ruapehu. Free private parking is available on site. Perfect to spend one night before the Tongariro Alpine Crossing! Very close to the pickup point
The premises was just what we needed. We were in National Park to do the Tongariro Crossing so needed a quiet place close to where we would catch the shuttle. The hosts made lunches for the Crossing so we did not lack for anything during our stay.
This is a non-frills economical stop over and for much cheaper than anywhere else in the area the motel provided a warm room, confortable bed with clean sheets, en suite bathroom and shower, tea/coffee facilities and Tv. The host was welcoming and helpful. Some other reviews suggest the rooms could do with updating, but that would put the price up. The service and facilities currently offered are ideal for a cheap, overnight stopover.
Hostel with a great location to the Tongariro National Park. Friendly Staff, big kitchen and shuttle service. Best of all, there is a climbing hall in the hostel! Highly recommend to stay here!
Individual quirkiness with a warm homely feel and a great host.p in a quiet location.
Great location.....quiet, pretty "town". Limited facilities in town but that's to be expected in a national park. Lot of late teens and 20+ year olds in residence but quiet, courteous, fair and probably tired after serious walking, biking etc!! Shop attached to Lodge was well stocked and broad range of foods, equipment. Hostess terrific.
Great location. House lovely, lots of interesting art work. Fantastic breakfast. Geoff (Jeff) was a great host - thank you.
Although attached to the main house, Gables B&B is incredibly private. It's also quiet and peaceful and a well-located base from which to explore the Ruapehu region. The host is very generous with breakfast provisions and snacks, including fresh fruit and free range eggs each day. The kitchen is small but well equipped, the bed comfortable - and the bathroom is serviced daily.
Fabulous breakfast with selection of fruit juices, cereal, fresh fruit and yoghurt. The homemade, fresh bread toasted with free range eggs and bacon was the perfect start for our drive to Wellington. Great hosts who lit the open fire for our return from dinner in Ohakune.
