Goofy photo makes it easy to find but it doesn’t represent how nice and functional the hostal is inside. It comes with a shared kitchen/eating area with microwave, cutlery, cups, glasses and plates. Kettle to boil water. Perfect set up to prepare light dinner and breakfast. Room was spacious and has large windows that opens up let fresh air. There’s nice bars for cold beer and tasty tapas and couple of grocery stores sell good local stuff nearby. Perfect 10 for Camino stop.

An indoor play area is also available at Casa Do Ferreiro - La Fragua, while guests can also relax in the garden. Kind lovely mother and daughter team welcomed us to nice room and delicious meal. Too bad about the wet and windy weather. Otherwise this place would’ve been enchanting.

Astorga is 39 km from Hostal Casa San Nicolas, while Villafranca del Bierzo is 25 km from the property. The hostal was in a great location on the Camino. Jose and his wife are perfect hosts. As Jose says, ‘you arrive as a guest but leave as family.’ The room was spacious and clean. It is close to restaurants and shopping. Jose speaks English, Portuguese, and Spanish and will give you recommendations. This is our second stay here and we’ll be back again if we return to the Camino.
