The hotel arranged for transportation from the airport, which was a delightful short boat ride and felt very VIP. Staff was very professional, helpful and above all very friendly and welcoming. The hotel grounds feel like a little quiet oasis, so if you don't feel like doing much you can just spend the morning at the pool.

Featuring a garden, Jamala Guesthouse is situated in Lamu in the Coast region, 43 metres from Lamu fort. Popular points of interest around the property include Old Jetty (Lamu) and Water well. Some units at the property have a balcony with a garden view.

Jamala Guesthouse, nestled in the heart of Lamu Old Town, was an absolute delight for us first-time visitors to Lamu. It provided a unique opportunity to deeply immerse ourselves in the local culture and connect with the welcoming people. The early morning calls to prayer from the surrounding mosques, for instance, became an integral part of the immersive experience. It is located just a short walk from the boat jetty which is super convenient! The host, Baji, was not only highly responsive but also incredibly helpful. Right from the moment we made our booking, he was readily available to provide us with all the information we needed. Baji even arranged a boat pick-up for us and an enriching Old Town Tour with Abu, who was an absolute delight to be around. The rooms at Jamala were both spacious and well-equipped with all the essentials, making it excellent value for money. The breakfast was also nice and balanced, with the option of tea/coffee, bread, eggs and fruit. There is also a kitchen available complete with a fridge that is available for guests to use. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay at Jamala again! Thank you to the team for making our inaugural visit to Lamu very memorable!😊😊

We had a great stay here. Despite the power being out in all of Lamu, we made it work and the place was clean and comfortable. Jivanjee was a great host and greated us at the beginning and end of our stay as well as connected us to local guides.

Mohammed is a very great host. He welcomed me so nicely and offered a guide to show me around Lamu. We also made a food arrangement and him and his family cooked for me for the whole of my stay there which was affordable as food can be quite tricky when new. You will feel at home. I loved the upstairs rooms because of the ventilation, so would highly recommend those. It's also situated 7 minutes away from the main street so it will give you a good tour of old town when figuring out old town. Overall a great experience for budget travellers

A remarkable property, full of history and character, and stylishly decorated. Our quiet room and private terrace at the back of the hotel overlooked charming rooftops, with dhows on the sea in the distance. The multiple pools, each set in its own secluded courtyard, are perfect for relaxing after a day exploring the island or the historic Old Town, and the waterside restaurant is totally delightful. Best of all, the team are so warm, welcoming and genuine - they really embody the spirit of Lamu and Kenya.

Wildebeeste is a very comfortable hostel/guesthouse in a traditional Swahili house, and it is less than 5 minutes walk from the main square and the port. Joshua the manager is very accommodating and helpful. The hostel wasn't full when I arrived, and Joshua provided an upgrade free of charge: I had a big room on the top floor (just under the rooftop terrace) with a great view of the port and the bay. I would definitely recommend Wildebeeste to other travellers - thank you Joshua!
