The staff at this hostel are amazing!!!! Shu-san really helped me out a lot figuring out hiking routes and rental equipment. I don't know what I would have done without him. The bunk beds were cool because there is a little closet in the bunk bed so it's easier to store backpacks in your bunk. The bunks also had a pretty good sized shelf to putting things. Dinner was amazing as well!!! Would recommend trying dinner at least once there.

We had a comfortable stay at this hotel, the manager was kind enough to let us make changes to our booking, which we really appreciated. The hotel is located in a very quiet area, near the cable car to the mountain and tourist information centre.

Great location with mountain and river views from the beautiful room. The hotel is dated, but clean and well kept. The onsen is okay, but one side is definitely better than the other. Luckily it switches every day. Outside there are two small baths which are nice and the large bath inside is average.

So cosy and welcoming. Really nice to connect with the staff. Quiet location but perfect for an escape from the cities. And easy to reach with public transport.

Cosy little guesthouse in a quiet area with lovely mountains all around (if the weather is clear enough to see them!). The staff were absolutely wonderful, gave great tips, and made me feel right at home. I was sad to say goodbye!

The hostel is comfortable and tasteful, with lovely traditional rooms and amazing natural surroundings. And the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, especially the lovely Keita! Nothing was too much trouble. He fitted us with fine hiking boots, assisted with organising a picnic and gave us a lot of kind and helpful advice to really enjoy Sounkyo.

Great little hostel with a very comfortable and friendly atmosphere. Staff were fantastic. Having breakfast (the ubiquitous rice balls) packaged and ready to go was very convenient for early morning hiking set-offs. I highly recommend as a cheap, simple and authentic accommodation option. Also recommend saying yes to the dinner option (only 1500 Yen) as food sources are limited in Sounkyo to hotel restaurants.

Very friendly staff, who gave excellent tips/guidance on trails. Setting of the lounge area and good vibe/atmosphere. Nice selection of quiet background music. A warm, cosy feel to the place. Would definitely stay here again.

This hostel is a clean and spacious place with a very pleasant atmosphere. The dinner was big and delicious, the nearby onsen is highly recommended for an evening visit.
