Situated in De Rust, in a historic building, 38 km from Oudtshoorn Golf Course, Meijer's Rust is a farm stay with an outdoor swimming pool and garden. A little slip up on my behalf not noticing the section that said the cottage needed a high clearance vehicle. They happily changed the room for a cottage lower down, which was just as amazing, spacious and super comfortable too.

Oom Sakkie is an exeptionally welcoming host who helped us with a fully stocked fridge on our arrival so we could sample food from nearby farms. The sheep farm is a bit out of the way down a dirt road but the road is good and a regular car will do just fine. Enjoy the bright starry sky and the outdoor braai. Exceptionally well priced too.

All units include a private bathroom with a shower, while some rooms will provide you with a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave. At the farm stay, all units come with bed linen and towels. Out of breath! Hot tub was great at night. Outside shower marvellous. This place was literally connected with nature. We chose Basic cottage because we wanted to feel it simple way and it was worth it. Straight in the front of the cottage we could observe zebras and elands. Great for relax, out of civilisation. Definitely we will come back.

We enjoyed hiking up the mountain behind the farm, walking into the village and cycling the farm roads in the area. We loved the friendly dogs and cats paying us a regular visit and watching the poultry gather noisily for their evening feed!

It started with a warm welcome from exceptional hosts. The whole farm feels sprinkled with fairy dust. Everything about this farm is magical, even the glorious food made by Christine! Homemade ice cream, perfectly cooked steak and the best French toast ever. The real stars of course being all the animals, including a cat and two dogs. The highlight however has to be the most incredible cart ride, pulled by a glorious beast named Vulcan (I can safely say I might have fallen a bit in love with him). It was exhilarating and a must if you visit.

Private parking is available on site at this recently renovated property. Guests can make use of the sun terrace or the outdoor fireplace, or enjoy views of the mountain and pool. I stayed at Wolverfontein towards the end of my 3 week trip to South Africa. I wish I had discovered this place sooner and spent more time there. The cottage is beautifully decorated and is better than the pictures. The wifi was prefect for a zoom call with my family. I will definitely book for longer when I return to South Africa.
