The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff checking in were wonderful and helped us ship our bags and answered all the questions we had. The breakfast was plenty and delicious. The onsen was amazing and beautiful. We also tried the brick baths and those were very relaxing. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Located in central Arashiyama district, Ranzan offers accommodations with free wired internet access. Guests can refresh in the spacious public baths and relax by the traditional garden. Free Wi-Fi is available at the public areas. Hankyu Arashiyama Train Station and JR Saga Arashiyama Train Station are both a 15-minute walk away.

Calming and elegant property in a great location. The traditional, 14 mat tatami suite was gorgeous and almost too spacious for two people (can fit up to 6). Futon beds are put away during the day for extra space and set up on the floor during dinner. Comfortable for those who sleep on their backs, but side sleepers may prefer a Western style room. Breakfast and dinner were included in our rate and were delicious, and a bit of a mystery as we don’t speak or read Japanese. Many small, lovely courses served as a set menu. Subtle flavors. At breakfast, don’t miss the Kobe coffee - rocket fuel in a tiny cup! The Onsen was a relaxing luxury, a great way to unwind before dinner. Do as the locals do and enjoy the comfy spa-wear in your room for the bath house and around the property. Service was excellent: we had dropped off our bags in the morning, and they were in our suite at arrival. When we couldn’t figure out how to turn up the heat, someone came up immediately. (The dial labeled “Air Conditioning” = heat.) The front desk kindly made lunch reservations for us at a hard-to-book restaurant.

A 10-minute drive from Kinkaku-ji Temple, Ryokan Yamazaki offers a hot public bath and serves breakfast and traditional dinners for an additional fee. The Japanese rooms are air-conditioned, and many have garden views.

Great decision to stay here. Our room was overlooking the gorge and wooded area behind the property, and I went to sleep every night hearing nothing but the babbling brook outside our window. JR and city buses will get you downtown or to the other attractions in the area. Very good Japanese breakfast.

Breakfast was great. We had two meat eaters, one vegetarian, and one piscatarian. The host catered to us all. We were all very satisfied. Talking to our host was so much more fun than talking to someone in a hotel. She was incredibly friendly

Set in Kyoto, just a 5-minute walk from Uzumasa-Tenjingawa Station, Furusatono Ie offers free bike and free WiFi throughout the property. Local points of interest like Kinkaku-ji Temple and Katsura Imperial Villa are within a 15-minute drive from the property.

It's a more traditional Japanese-style family room, and the hostess is very kind. The location is okay, about a 15-minute walk if you're carrying luggage. There's no elevator in the building, so keep that in mind if you have heavy bags. The soundproofing isn't great; you can hear noise from the neighbors and construction outside. The mattress and bedding were noticeably dirty... but the room's facilities are okay. Unfortunately, there's no washing machine, which is inconvenient for long-term travelers.
