Shioriya offers accommodation in Nagano, 11 km from Zenkoji Temple. Popular points of interest around the property include Togakushi Shrine and Old Kawanakajima Battlefield. Nagano City Museum is 2 km away and Matsushiro Castle is 4 km from the guest house.

Stay here it will really enhance your Japanese travel experience. The most perfect four room hotel in a newly built beautiful Japanese home. The hosts are warm and welcoming. It’s like staying with a favourite friend or relative. It reminded me of staying with my grandmother when I was a little girl, they were so attentive and helpful. The rooms are warm and comfortable and impeccably clean. The breakfasts were the best food I had in Japan. Fresh local fruits and delicious home made soups. Off street parking and local bus and train transportation. Lots of helpful advice on attractions in and around the Nagano area and how to get there. (We loved the ‘snow monkeys’!) There are large grocery stores just around the corner and a lovely kitchen to use to prepare meals as well as local restaurants. Watch the kids walk and bike to school along the quiet street in front of the house and then catch an easy bus to Nagano Station to explore further afield.

Situated just a 5-minute walk from historic Togakushi Shrine, Oshi Ryokan is traditional lodging accommodation in the peaceful mountain area, which used to cater for pilgrims. The main building is 250 years old with a thatched roof.

Wonderful traditional ryokan owned by the Oshi family for 200 years. I stayed in a spacious tatami room on the ground floor with beautiful views of the garden. Very peaceful to sit and stare outside. Delicious breakfast and dinner add on options and a very friendly host who made me feel like I was in a second home. Will definitely be returning again. The ryokan is conveniently located steps from the bus stop and takes about 1 hr on a direct bus from Nagano station. It's 3 mins walk from the steps of the first of five shrines (lower shrine) of Togakuji so I highly recommend completing the Togakuji "pilgrimage" trail to see all of them. Beautiful 300+ yr old cedar trees line the paths. Togakuji is the birthplace of soba noodles and beside Chusa Otorii (middle shrine) is the #1 soba noodles restaurant, Uzuraya. There are long wait times at the restaurant so I put my name down at Uzuraya on my way up on the hike and it was ready by the time I returned to dine right away. It was around a 3 hr roundtrip hike from the ryokan or 4-5 hrs with breaks and lunch. Great way to explore the area.

Right on the doorsteps of Zenkoji. The morning service was excellent, although a bit too early for me... This is my first time in a Shukubo, certainly interested in trying again.

Excellent location. Just 2 minutes walk from station. Friendly and efficient staff. The welcome donuts were a nice surprise and delicious! The rooms were comfortable, clean and quiet. I appreciated the extras, such as pillow library in reception area, toys and games to borrow. We were impressed with the breakfast too, which was a very affordable add-on to room price. Enough options for us even though we’re a vegetarian family with fussy kids!

Oshi Ryokan was a family favourite- even the teenagers were impressed. The service and food were incredible. The rooms had amazing views and the bedding was very warm and comfortable. The bathrooms are shared and within the unheated shared area- it is cold when you go to the bathroom at night- it didn't bother us at all but is worth noting. Definitely a mix of rustic and luxury here! The location was perfect for hiking around the shrines and skiing!

The 10+8 tatami room was big enough for family with young kids, lovely traditional dinner and breakfast sets. Location right by temple grounds along pedestrian street with snack stalls and a Starbucks, and if you cross onto Omotesando you'll find several more sweet shops. Easy ryokan experience for city kids.
