Incredible place
I will remember this experience my entire life
The host is a very kind monk. Google translate is used for communication and it worked very well
Can recommend it for couples and also for solo travelers. A one of a kind experience. I was the only western person, surrounded by Japanese people. It felt very authentic
1 day is perfect for it. I did 2 days, which was nice as I could go hiking next to the temple experience
Thanks for everything

Actually booked this place by accident. I thought i had booked Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan. When i showed up to the hotel I thought i had booked, it was more elegant, and honestly more uppity than i was expecting. I sensed they were put off by my excited kids, and knew we'd be walking on eggshells the whole time. So i wasnt super upset when we learned I had accidentally booked another place 18 km away! I had been corresponding with the hotel operator by email, who seemed pleasant enough, but I hadn't the first clue what kind of place i had actually booked. So we were beyond excited when we arrived to find, what to my foreign eyes seemed like an absolutely authentic traditional japanese home. It looked like a movie set. The owner showed us around the property, then he went home. The kids and I high-fived! We got the traditional setting we had wanted, but we could relax alone on a mountainside. The setting is a tad rustic. I loved that about the place. Heating is by woodburning stove that you feed yourself (electric space heaters there as well). There is a full kitchen there, and what we didnt know ahead of time, is that there is primitive outdoor grilling/cooking facilities. That made a few confusing exchanges with the property operator suddenly make sense. Although it sounded in other reviews that possibly the property owner provided meat to be grilled, we had been asked to bring our own food. We didnt understand that that meant grillable items. But anyway, we loved the place. It would be perfect for a large group of 7, possibly more, to stay for more than one day and get big preplanned meals going on the woodfired grill.

This hotel is very unique and it was the highlight of our visit to Japan.
From the moment we arrived we were fully looked after in every respect.
After visiting Osaka and Kyoto we stayed here. It was the perfect mid point of the holiday and provided the 'Real Japanese Experience' that we were looking for.
If you are interested in design, architecture, interior design, modern design, Japanese culture, peace and tranquility then this will not disappoint!
The introduction to the room and facilities was very comprehensive.
As this is a boutique hotel the owners and staff like to take their time to explain. This helps and assists with everything and this is all part of the experience.
We were 2 adults and 2 young children ages 3 and 10mo. We had the best time!
As families grow in size, so too do the needs of a family holiday. That’s why family hotels are set up to cater for all ages, from toddlers and kids to teens and adults. Typically, you can expect restaurants with kids’ menus, games rooms, fitness centres and a pool area where children can play and parents can relax.
This is an authentic 550 year old temple. It was an incredible experience, I learnt so much about the Japanese culture. The people were amazing and the food was divine.
We did the kimonos dress up and my kids did the calligraphy, which was at an additional cost but well worth it!
A wonderful atmospheric place with a beautiful garden. The rooms are spacious and clean, great bath and excellent food. I felt very good there and slept like a baby. I have good memories of my stay there and the wonderful care of the host, Mrs. Junko
This was an outstanding experience. The chief priest and his family are amazing. The rooms are big and spacious, the food is very good. Minobu as an area is so beautiful, with large mountains covered with green cedartrees and nestled in between are all the important temples. The chief priest did an astounishing work in introducing us to the buddhist practices. The walk to the morning prayer, 04:45 in the morning is very very rewarding.
The hospitality was so good that I couldn't believe it was the temple lodging. Good traditional and modern dinner. The decorations inside the lodging are fun.
Amazing atmosphere, super clean and spacious rooms. We learned a lot about Buddhism and the chief monk Ken and his family were so very nice and welcoming. They explained a lot about history, Buddhism and gave us great recommendations about walking around - definitely the highlight of our trip in Japan so far!
Food was super authentic too.
An advice - take a taxi from the station, it’s not expensive and the road is super steep. Also go to the morning prayer.
We had an amazing two nights at Habanobo. Ken and his family made us feel so welcome and learning about Buddhism from Ken was very interesting. Minobu is a beautiful and peaceful area and Ken gave us some excellent tips on walks in the area. The temple is very well kept, and our room was very large with lovely views. The breakfast and dinner was excellent and very carefully prepared and presented. Would love to go back one day!
As others have said, the food is amazing, the hospitality is excellent, and the whole experience is just wonderful. Highly recommended. We are a family of five (all vegan) and we loved our visit to Kakurinbo.
Staff were very friendly and willing to help in anyway. It felt like staying with family.
They took the time to recommend what to do in the area, the 3 main attractions in the area are amazing and the reason for coming to this location. This will be one of the most special parts of our trip to Japan.
An absolutely lovely stay with friendly people, amazing food and a great garden. Not only that, the surrounding area is stunning and staff do their absolute best to give you recommendations. We also got a surprise mini "matsuri" (Japanse festival) experience, which was a ton of fun and made our stay all the more special.
And as someone with tattoos it was great that we could use the public bath without any trouble. A lot of places in Japan still refuse those with tattoos, but it wasn't a problem here. Very thankful for this!
