Located within 7.2 km of Iwafune Shrine and 10 km of Nozaki Kannon Shrine, Shionome house offers rooms with air conditioning and a shared bathroom in Ikoma. This bed and breakfast provides free private parking and a shared kitchen. Suehiro Park is 11 km from the bed and breakfast and Aeon Mall Shijonawate is 12 km away.

The guesthouse is not far from Kintetsu Ikoma Station, but you need to pay attention to the exit. From the second floor, you can directly reach the uphill side where the guesthouse is located. The host is very kind, and the local residents have a harmonious relationship. The breakfast tastes good. The environment is very quiet. In the morning, I could see scenes of Japanese daily life, like the host’s daughter taking bread to school.Foreign visitors should be aware that in Japanese guesthouses, you need to bring your own bath towels, toothbrushes, and other essentials. Additionally, the restroom has a sliding door that is closed at night, so if you need to use the restroom at night, you should inform the host. Knowing a little Japanese will make communication easier. The host can understand English, but their speaking level is about average for Japan.

I like it’s a small traditional Japanese family style hotel located in the middle of the mountain that’s still close to the town Ikoma by driving. The clear city view from the tea room is spectacular: we enjoyed the sight of the town with the high elevation and mountain range close by. The warm city lights at night and neighboring beautiful cherry blossoms and magnolia blended in the background of green hills under daylight are memorable. The host is also very accommodating: she speaks English and understands us well without too much trouble. On top of making arrangements for tea ceremony and kimono fitting (of course with additional charge), she can provide very good traditional Japanese breakfast. We didn’t try dinner there but I am sure it would be good. It’s about an hour drive away from Nara, Osaka, Tokyo, and other major cities in Kansai. Would highly recommend to people who want to experience what want to explore the city at daytime but want to experience a different vibe to stay outside of the city area at night.
