The friendliness and consideration of the staff were excellent. So very helpful. Looked after our luggage for hours prior to our check-in time, made trip and restaurant suggestions that saved us money. The room was clean and comfortable, and we didn't notice any excessive noise, which has been raised in other reviews. You can reach the Bay area within an easy 20 minute walk straight down Fillmore St.

It was a very old hotel (100 years!), so expect slightly crumbly window frames and no air conditioning (not 100% sure about this - you'd have to ask) - but the San Francisco climate is cool, so you don't need aircon! - and you can open the windows, which I love! The bed was super comfy and there was lots of space - the room was lovely and bright and the bathroom was too, all very old-fashioned, which is what I like. On the last day I was able to leave my suitcase at reception for a few hours after check-out for free while I saw some last sights, and all the receptionists were super friendly! There is a good fridge in the room, and a coffee machine (I didn't try this, as I brought my own kettle with me). I also didn't try the restaurant, but it was on the ground floor of the hotel. I just loved everything really! It's very rare to find a traditonal hotel like this nowadays, at a price I could just about afford, and it was perfectly positioned, very close to Powell station, from where you can get everywhere easily. The manager was lovely, and I would definitely go back!

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.
Surrounded on 3 sides by water, it is spread over steep hills that make for great photo opportunities. None better than the zig-zag Lombard Street seen in many a film. Other movie stars are the streetcars plying the hill climbs – a little touristy, but still worth trying.
In the middle of the bay is Alcatraz island, famed for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t fancy going inside, the views towards the bridge and city are unparalleled.
Nowhere in San Francisco is life more laidback than on the Pacific beaches. Hire a bike and head out there via the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. The clam chowder served in (yes, actually in!) bread is a delight. Chinatown also has a great selection of good value restaurants.
As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want to stay in apartments along those lines, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something to suit. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here.

I lived in San Francisco for 3 years many years ago, and though it has changed for the worse, I still love "the city," and visit often. Always be aware of your surroundings when walking, and make sure that nothing valuable is visible in your car wherever you park. This city has a big problem with "smash and grabs." Google this term, and you'll see a map of all reports incidents of thieves smashing car windows (day and night) and stealing whatever you have in your car.
On the plus side, San Francisco is still a vibrant city with a diverse and interesting population of people. Favorite places for me are Golden Gate Park, North Beach, Chinatown, Japantown and the various arts venues.

We loved our mini trip to San Francisco.
We loved our mini trip to San Francisco. We stayed just one night but squeezed in a lot during our trip. Fishermans Wharf, Pier 39, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, Trams, Golden Gate bridge and much much more. Keep an eye out for the Waymo cars that initially look like google maps cars, but in fact they are driverless taxis.....sign up in advance and you will be able to try them out yourself, sadly we got our invite after we had left. Nothing can prepare you for the steepness of the hills in SF so with a 4yo in tow we used Ubers to get around the city. Would love to come back some time, maybe without a little one so we could investigate the nightlife of San Francisco.

We were in SF to go to the opera. Only over a weekend.
We were in SF to go to the opera. Only over a weekend. Parked the car through valet parking (independent of the hotel) and left it there the whole time (expensive!). Used Uber and it made things efficient and effortless. We ate at a local Japanese/Korean restaurant of no pretense and good food. Above, I mentioned that we didn't stay in the room we booked....they gave us an upgrade because they noticed we have some problems of mobility and they made sure that the room was as convenient as possible.
Spotless hotel in a great location. Neighbourhood is very safe and has plenty of bars & restaurants to enjoy. We saw some bad reviews for the car park around the corner so decided to park at a secure car park on union street roughly 10 mins walk away, it was $30 a for 24hrs and very secure. The hotel’s loading bay at the entrance makes unpacking and repacking the car with luggage super easy. Also the rooftop has fantastic views of the city. Overall by far the best option we had found in San Francisco, especially for the price.
WE had excellent service, good food at breakfast and good selection. Nice touch having the wine hour from 5-6pm. The location was great. We walked to the munibus to catch downtown, only 3 blocks away. Nice having the beautiful park across the street to walk in and enjoy a coffee. We also caught the big bus tour just down on Haight and that area had nice restaurants in it. Overall it was all easy access to lots of ammenities! Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in San Francisco!
Top class Hotel! Staff extremely friendly! If we plan to visit San Fran again, this hotel would be our choice!
Located in the center, close to Union Square, you have everything nearby. And if you are lucky enough to get a hotel room in floor 26 (like we did :-)), you can enjoy a breathtaking view! Free Gym in floor 35 makes even the training super easy!
When it comes to San Francisco, safety is a topic; by choosing this hotel, you don't have to worry about any safety concerns.
I found this place in a travel blog written by SF locals, and I’m so glad I did. As a single female, I felt safe in the area and in the hotel, which was one of my main criteria. The hotel was charming, and the staff incredibly friendly. They offered a complimentary wine and cheese in the evening and then breakfast in a cute lounge with fireplaces. It was east walking distance to explore Union Square and China town.
Friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful staff makes the Beresford Arms a wise choice in the Bay Area. Clean, spacious rooms, great city views, in a location that is full of things to do, restaurants galore; Union Square, Chinatown, Nob Hill and North Beach neighborhoods are within easy walking distance. We’ve stayed at both Beresford properties and they are our go-to hotels when staying in San Francisco!
The location was great for Union Square and Powell Street access. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. There were a lot of amenities in the area, like corner shops and restaurants. Also the main entrance was only accessible with your room key, so the hotel felt safe. Lastly, the lobby area was welcoming and I spent some of my time there enjoying the room.
The hotel is very conveniently located in downtown SF, as it close to Union Square and is 100 m away from the Powell Metro station from which the airports (I flew to/from SFO, but this is true also for OAK) can be easily reached. The room was small, but comfortable. There is no breakfast service, but coffè is available in the morning.
Great and peaceful location on the cable car route to the Bay area, historic vintage interiör, all stories, photos and art on the walls of the hotel, the Black Cat Bar, library, very kind and helpful staff. This building offers a sight to the San Franciscos development. The hotel rooms are rebuild, fresh and new. We highly recommend!
Great location, right next to Union Square and the cable car line. Old historic building, large hall with beautiful decoration. The rooms were spacious. The hotel offers a continental breakfast which is very limited, but there are several breakfast options nearby, we loved Lori's. Great starting point for exploring San Francisco.
Good location, a block or two from Union Square. A room on one of the upper floors has a wonderful view of downtown. Comfortable beds, good bathroom, lots of space. Fridge in the room, plenty of space and modern furnishings. Very friendly staff and very clean. Much more personable than some of the giant hotels in the same area.
The gym in this hotel is amazing, something that I haven't seen in years in a hotel. The staff is also one of the best I've seen in many years, they assisted promptly to all of our requests. And the location cannot be better in San Francisco. I've stayed in a couple of hotels in this area and this is the best one hands down.
My stay at Palihotel in San Francisco was a mixed experience. The hotel exudes charm, with everything looking even better in person than in the pictures. The atmosphere is lovely, and the location, just steps from Union Square, couldn't be better. The receptionists were incredibly helpful throughout my stay.
Free quick breakfast and coffee to go. Location is great for the fact Union Square is near by and so many other spots near by the downtown area. Cozy, clean and safe Hostel. I would highly recommend as a traveler for business as myself or leisure. A great way to meet so many people from around the world.
- The location is very convenient, right at the downtown core and close to the Union Square.
- Lots of restaurants around the hotel and a CVS convenient right across the street for all the amenities that the hotel can't provide.
- Close to lots of public transit options
- The room is clean
Lily the receptionist was the most amazing person we've met! She helped us a lot with organizing our trip in San Francisco and South California, gave us lots of todos and tips.
Hotel is clean, great value for money and perfect location, a block from Union square.
The hotel was in a great location just a couple of blocks from Union Square and central San Francisco with lots of restaurant options really close by. Our room was a great size, the bathroom was very modern and the slightly separate tea/coffee area was useful.
Really friendly staff who were very attentive and couldn't be faulted. The hotel is out there in terms of decoration, in a v cool way. Great location 2 mins from Union Square and the classic San Francisco trams and 5 mins from China Town.
The location couldn’t be more ideal—right on Powell, a few blocks from Union Square, very central to the other neighborhoods that define downtown San Francisco life. The complimentary coffee and tea service in the lobby was also a plus.
Great hotel off the main Market Street in downtown San Francisco. Very central to main attractions and public transport. Clean and tidy. Good bed and pillows. Quiet. Nice reception area to sit and plan things.
