A really run-down little city that has lost more than half its population in the past 50 years. There really isn't much to do here. We went to both the Castle Museum and Saginaw Art Museum (both decent), finished before lunch, and had little else to do the rest of the single day we stayed there. The layout of the town is very strange, and while there are some very good restaurants, they're really hard to find.

The property was filthy the hall carpet and carpet in the elevator look like they the have never been cleaned. We had to ask for clean towels and to freshen up our room which never happened. Not to mention the holes in the wall in the room we were staying in!!

The Temple Theatre is a must, a great old venue with a lot of character. The Castle Museum/Historical Society of Saginaw County is another beautiful site to see with a lot of history. Tony's Italian Restaurant on Gratiot or State St have exceptional Italian food. Most of the streets are north/south or east/west oriented so not difficult to move about Saginaw. I wish more of the old downtown area was being brought back to life.

We stayed in Saginaw because all reasonably priced accommodations in nearby Frankenmuth were already booked. We were heading there for their Bavarian Fest. Saginaw was a drivable distance option, and we didn’t spend much time there. We did, however take in the Saginaw Castle, which is an historic post office converted into a beautifully executed local history museum. Quite impressive.

This place was a catfish hotel.
This place was a catfish hotel. When arriving I saw local vagrants all around. The neighborhood is sketchy, and the whole hotel was dirty. Room was filthy, bedding was scratchy and smelled horrible. If you like clean spaces, do not go here.

The rooms were clean and comfy. No soap, no hairdryer, pretty basic. Good breakfast. We stayed 2 nights and we’re not told that the second day of our stay, the entrance would be closed for construction. Jackhammering the old sidewalk. Noisy, messy and distributive. Had we been told, we would not have booked here.
Breakfast was just ok. Beautiful Main building but unfortunately our reservation was messed up and got a room in ”guesthouse” which was not very nice! Personel did their best.
