We booked two nights to visit Monterey & Carmel. The photos don't do this place justice - First it looked like a small B&B and then like a motel - which it is neither - it's a great, friendly and comfortable hotel with large comfortable rooms and nice bathrooms. The breakfast is great, they have relatively cheap parking and the location is great - a few minutes walk to Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium, restaurants (we'd recommend Hulas Island Grill), and a 15 minute drive to Carmel & 17 mile drive. Would absolutely recommend this place - such great value.

- breakfast was neat and fresh fruit. Little choice options though.

Known for beautifully undulating coastline attracting a wealth of wildlife, laidback Monterey is set on a small peninsula. Though now more famous for Monterey Jack cheese, it was once an important sardine fishing town. Some ex-canning factories now house galleries and shops on a street renamed Cannery Row after a novel by John Steinbeck. A museum and his former home in nearby Salinas can be visited.
The fantastic Monterey Bay Aquarium houses a fascinating range of local sealife, which is so prevalent here that you can often see seals basking on craggy beaches, or sea lions roaring away under piers in Fisherman’s Wharf. Whalewatching tours also depart from here.
South is the Monterey State Historic Park, site of historic buildings including Custom House and the Old Whaling Station with a path made from whalebone. To the east are a couple of Monterey hotels on the beach on Booking.com, and there are also several Monterey hotels with indoor pools.
Right by Monterey Peninsula Airport is one of the city’s 7 golf courses, and there are 3 golf courses near the Laguna Seca Raceway.
Whether you’re here for the Monterey Jazz Festival, or for driving the Big Sur Pacific coast road to the south, if you’re staying with kids, don’t forget to check out the Dennis the Menace Park.

Monterey was lovely, a great place to walk around and lots to see and do. We wish we had stayed longer. And it would also have been good to go to Carmel if we had stayed longer.
The Dust Bowl brewery down near the harbour was great. (It's in between a main road and a car park so doesn't look brilliant from the outside but worth a visit!).
The Fieldwork brewery on Munras Ave is also worth checking out, but only on a sunny day as it's outside seating only!
The aquarium is supposed to be one of the best in the world but we were fairly underwhelmed.

The centre of the town is rather tacky & expensive but the National Park at Point Lobos is lovely, as is the coastal drive (or cycle) to Carmel. The Aquarium was somewhat disappointing and very overpriced inside. The small Art museum is worth a short visit. The dedicated, car free trail for pedestrians and cyclists is a nice idea.

Monterey is a great place to spend a few days.
Monterey is a great place to spend a few days. There is a lot to see and once you learn the one ways streets it is easy to get around. The wharf is fine, Cannery row is a tourist spot but it is fun and the aquarium is great. Food is very good in Monterey and Carmel.

Cannery Row is a bit of a tourist trap, but if you head away from the beach you quickly access the restaurants of Lighthouse Avenue, including Hula - Hawaian food. If I had my time again, I would have tried to stay nearer to the Acquariam, even as far west as Pacific Grove (technically the next town along), near the delights of Happy Girl Kitchen.

I love the ocean.
I love the ocean. There are just so many great little beaches to visit. Monterey has so much Sea life too. We saw harbor seals, otters, elephant seals, too late for the Monarch Butterflys, tons of birds, just from the walking paths! We actually walked from Monterey to Pacific Grove. There are also loads of shops, and restaurants.
my husband and I stayed in one of the king rooms with ocean view balcony and sofa bed, and we absolutely loved all the space and the incredible view. We also made use of the hot tub on the roof, which was very relaxing. The hotel is conveniently located on Cannery Row, easily accessible by car and putting many restaurants and attractions within walking distance. The in-room breakfast wasn’t anything amazing but it was enough to be filling and it was nice to have it delivered.
We enjoyed so much about our stay. We had one of the best views we could have asked for, the room was very chic and the hotel itself is gorgeous. The location is one of the best in downtown Monterey. I will be honest, when deciding on which hotel to book knowing this one is a pet friendly hotel I was worried about the condition our room would be in (smell and cleanliness) but if a dog had ever been in our room before we would never know it! The stay overall was fantastic.
This hotel was spotlessly clean, modern in its decor, comfortable bed and fluffy towels, nice refrigerator and furniture, and walking distance to the Monterey Fair Grounds (where we were attending a festival). There is also a very nice restaurant (Monterey Cookhouse) and a CVS drug store both walking distance from the hotel. The proprietor was kind enough to allow us to check in early as the room was available. She was a very pleasant person who made us feel welcome.
It’s nice to relax in this Monterey hotel. The receptionist was kind and welcoming. It’s a 15 minute downhill walk downtown or a 30 minute walk to the Fisherman’s Wharf along with Monterey’s beach oceanfront. You can ride the city transit to Pacific Grove & Carmel or drive if you want to visit Carmel Valley & Big Sur. The calm weather attracts tourists from all over the world so peak seasons tend to bring families, owners with pets, and visitors.
The Monterey Hotel is a beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Monterey, walking distance to most everything you want to see there and a short shuttle ride to the aquarium, which was the reason for our visit. We stayed one night. The staff are friendly and helpful, the room was clean and quiet. The beds are comfortable. There's a coffee maker in the room with some decent brand coffee pods from a local company.
Beautiful setting right on the Monterey Bay. Gorgeous views from our ocean view rooms, the sound of crashing waves under the property all day long, marine life nature sounds, one of the most relaxing hotels I’ve ever been to!
Restaurant location and quality was amazing too! Nice lounge and bar area to get together with family in the evening. Great central location for excursions around the area, very walkable.
location wasnt bad, 10 min to wharf, on busy street but set back so not noisy, bathroom very nice with fancy lights in the mirror and granite countertops and shower, very clean, beds comfortable with 3 different types of pillows on beds. pet friendly but no specific pet areas outside other than parking lot and empty lot behind hotel. oversized fridge for motel room
I highly recommend this hotel. Location can’t be beat, within walking distance to Monterey wharf, waterfront
and downtown. My deluxe fireplace room was spacious, clean and the staff was extemely accomodating. Breakfast was better than expected. Will come back again!
Very comfortable hotel with a pool and well positioned next to a diner and the Amtrak thru bus stop. Also near a few good restaurants and the trolley to get to Fisherman’s Wharf and Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Great location on the beach and cannery row. Close to 17-mile drive, great restaurants, and fisherman's wharf. In room sauna, although it took forever to heat up. I would prefer the in room soaking tub.
This hotel is smack dab in the middle of Monterey waterfront. Walk right outside the doors to the busiest part of the area. Cool bridge between buildings, nice patio by the water
Cute, quaint little hotel. Had all the amenities, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, snacks and water, AC etc.
Great location, literally 4 min walk to Monterey fairgrounds.
Nice place, not too far from sea and restaurants if you want to walk, cannery row etc is within reach by car. Was nice to see local market, the "other" Monterey.
