Exploring Los Angeles, the place where many movies are made, you feel like you’re in a dream. Santa Monica Pier is the ending point of fabled Route 66, while just south is bohemian Venice Beach, lined by tall, swaying palms. Go slightly inland from the boardwalk to glimpse the canals that earned the area its name.
Head north to the golden beach and stunning scenery of Malibu and see why movie stars over the decades have settled here. Also popular with the rich and famous are Bel Air and Beverly Hills, home to exclusive Rodeo Drive.
And the reason for all this glitz and glamour? Hollywood, of course! Sitting high on a hill, the iconic sign is visible for miles around, while below the gold stars on Hollywood Boulevard immortalise celebrities of past and present. Be there on premiere night to see them grace the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.
Over the hill is Universal Studios, offering behind-the-scenes tours as well as rides. Next door are the Warner Brothers Studios, and Paramount Studios are closer to Downtown LA.
Whether you decide to live like a star in a luxury LA hotel or choose a cheap motel through Booking.com, it’s worth renting a car to get around this sprawling city and out to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).
Needless to say, LA is a big sprawled out city. We stayed three blocks from Santa Monica Beach & Pier 66 which was a fun location. We took an uber to Warner Brothers (cool place) and to Hollywood where we took a fun Beverly Hills small bus tour! The other two days we had a car and drove down to Malibu, a drive to the city for the Chinese Market, Little Tokyo, Melrose Avenue, The Pink Wall, all things we thought our 12 & 14 year old grand kids would enjoy. We ate at the famous Melrose Diner and the In & Out burger joints which they loved. I'm not gonna lie, their is mega traffic so plan ahead to get where you are going on time which we did and just enjoy the scene!

The city itself is amazing. There's so much to do and see. The traffic can be stressful to people who aren't used to big cities but it's worth it. I would definitely recommend experiencing Universal Studios as a day trip. I would avoid staying in a hotel near the Hollywood Walk of Fame though as it is a very sketchy area, and I had my credit card stolen while staying at a hotel on that street.

Los Angeles has great and fun activities to do.
Los Angeles has great and fun activities to do.
But the city stinks really bad, everything is dirty, there is a terrible problem with homeless people (you literally have to walk on the streets because they take over the sidewalks), the public transportation is extremely gross.

I was only there for business, but the multitude of times I've been in LA have, in general, been good. I'm returning to the area in a week for vacation, but I'll be staying in a more touristy area.

You get what you pay for. We just wanted a place to crash between flights and it was perfect. Rooms are clean and water was hot. The neighborhood is not as bad as I thought it could be. No homeless.

Honestly, I don't like LA a lot.
Honestly, I don't like LA a lot. I prefer Santa Barbara, San Francisco or Monterey in terms of city. LA is a very expensive city because all the touristic points are kinda far from each other and your options to move in the city are subway, uber or rent a car.
The issue is that in the subway you'll find a lot of users under the influence and, for first time travelers, it must be a shock. But it's the easiest way to move around.
The ubers are very expensive and renting a car will increase your chances to get in a lot of traffic jam.
There are some nice places such as the Farmer Market, observatory, Santa Monica and the Parks (universal and Disneyland). And of course the walk of fame but I found very tacky and ugly. The food is also good, you can find very nice restaurants and coffee. Bottega Louie was my favorite as well as the food in Farmers Market.
So my advice is to stay in a strategic place where you can avoid traffic jam and visit the places around. And plan a short stay and visit other places such as Santa Barbara, San Francisco and San Diego.
A very nice hotel with big rooms, a swimming pool and a spa. Our room was big with a massive TV and refrigerator. The beds were very comfy. The location is close to the LAX airport and far from Downtown Los Angeles. That’s wasn’t an issue for us as we rented a car from nearby the airport. The staff were very polite and friendly. The breakfast that was served was excellent. And there are plenty of shops nearby. We enjoyed our stay and we definitely would stay over again.
Our stay at the Ramada by Wyndham Hollywood was for 5 nights and the service provided was exceptional. The staff go out of their way to make sure you feel like family. The room we had was considered a standard size room but it was a lot larger than others costing more we had stayed in on our trip accross the USA. The hotel is very well located to all the best attractions in the area. Overall a great experience and again we thank the staff in particular Matt and Theo.
I got there and had a free early check-in. The staff helped me a lot with my luggage at the end of my stay as well. There was always water available for everyone. Everything was clean. I couldn't use the pool and wasn't able to get some drinks at the restaurant but it looked very fancy. There's always free shuttles to the Airport. The hotel is near everything. What's not to love?
I totally recommend it and will always be my first option when staying in Los Angeles
clean hotel within a vibrant yet quiet cultural downtown neighborhood, 20 mins walking distance to the interesting little tokyo district as well as to the beautiful union station and the enhanced airport shuttle, some longer walking distance to the next subway station for other downtown areas, hollywood, venice beach etc. (all of them not really worth to see), could check in way earlier than officially possible, best value for overpriced los angeles.
So this wasn’t exactly a Business owned hostel it was a home with rooms and beds. More like a shared AirBnB.
What I liked about it was the location wasn’t too bad, it’s not exactly in a nice area but it is close to downtown Los Angeles. The other guests were polite and respectful but again this is more like a shared Airbnb so no “community vibe”.
The host is not on location but responded any time I needed anything.
Excellent location for walking on the Venice beach boardwalk. Pretty much in the middle of the pier and marina del rey, we could walk to both.
Decent food and drink options nearby. The hotel is clean with a nice rooftop. Good vibes.
There is parking right next to the hotel for an additional $45 per day and night. Not the cheapest you can find in the area and very conveniently located right next to the hotel.
I always choose to stay at Hampton Inn for first night after long flight whenever I visit Los Angeles. It offers great value for money with its comfortable beds, cozy pillows, and cleanliness. The hotel's proximity to the airport is a major advantage, making it a convenient choice for travelers. I highly recommend this hotel for a comfortable and hassle-free stay near the airport.
We were glad to find this small budget hotel as we wanted to stay in the Echo park area and LA ain't cheap. The room was large enough with a good shower and was clean. Staff were nice to deal with, and there is free parking behind the hotel and a few spots out front. It is a great location if you want to explore echo park and silver lake easily
Excellent hotel, best I ever stayed in LA. 2 breakfast rooms with excellent options, incredible and helpful employees, great parking in the building. The location is perfect for tourism in Los Angeles, as is near enough from Santa Monica, Bervely Hills, Hollywood, downtown LA etc. and you won't lose much time in traffic.
Compared to the hotels in this area/ west LA, Hilton Culver City was the best bag for your buck. The price to cleanliness/ modern ratio was the best I could find. Other hotels of this cleanliness and reliability in the area were a lot more expensive and anything cheaper was kinda dirty looking/ or hostels.
I loved the staff and how helpful they were and excellent at there jobs !
Very clean, great location, fairly cheap for your expenses! Clean couldn’t complain about anything on this hotel! I recommend the Trylon Hotel out of any other locations near by!! By far the best place I’ve stayed at!!!
On-street parking outside. Good garden space. The host provides good facilities. Close to Universal Studios and Warner Brothers Studios. Close to 101 Freeway and Burbank airport. Easy to get to downtown LA, Santa Monica, and further afield in the greater Los Angeles area.
There was no breakfast included in the price. When I was booking I was under the impression it was included. The hotel parking was very expensive. In the area we found much cheaper overnight parking for $25.00. Otherwise the hotel is clean and located right in downtown.
The Ace Hotel is perfectly located in Downtown Los Angeles, with a friendly staff, great restaurants, and a small but lovely rooftop pool. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are well appointed. Very lovely.
+ the Guy was very nice and helpfull
