I've been coming to Gettysburg for about 30 years now and every time I learn something new. A new story, a new soldier or civilian who I'm delighted to find out about. Often a stay will send me on a new research subject, something or someone I need to know more about.

Self driving auto tour of the Battlefield was excellent.
Self driving auto tour of the Battlefield was excellent. Restaurants were all good. GaryOwen Irish Pub had delicious shepherd's pie. Hunt's Battlefield Fries looks grubby but had an amazing toasted Lebanon bologna and cheese sandwich on pretzel roll. Halloween weekend, so we took the haunted audio tour, which was fun, the Jennie Wade haunted tour which was a bit hokey but the history was interesting. Also a haunted hayride to search for ghosts....

I lived in Gettysburg in the 80s.
I lived in Gettysburg in the 80s. The traffic in the fall was always heavy but was well managed with the circle.
The Lincoln Diner still has great food and service.
The Fairfield area is not far and is beautiful and has the Fairfield Inn as well as the covered bridge. Nearby is Cashtown which has Civil War historical significance plus the Round Barn there, is a must see as well as the apple orchards - a truly remarkable area.

The Eisenhower Farm was beautiful.
The Eisenhower Farm was beautiful. Pennsylvania Memorial and the Virginia Memorial were nice. The views from Little Round Top were stunning for this time of year. We had dinner at the Dobbin House Tavern and O'Rourkes Irish Pub. Both were very good.

There was much more to see and do than I thought there would be not only in Gettysburg but also the surrounding area. We visited an apple festival, farmers market along with the battlefield and museums.

Excellent place to get away and learn the history of the town the Jennie Wade house and farnsworth house ghost tours were excellent! The museums are also very good as well and the guides that we had for all of our adventures were very knowledgeable on the history of the area so whether you are a history buff or just want a cool fairly inexpensive place to check out I highly recommend making the trip to Gettysburg.

Breakfast was basic. Every time I went down the oatmeal was out. Bummer. It was still an hour to go for breakfast. I ate the same thing every day- small yogurt, small muffin and juice. But some hotels don’t even have breakfast.
