The city of Istanbul offers a trip unlike any other, encompassing Asian and European cultures to create a heady mix of art, music and food. The amazing Old Town and the Sultanahmet are home to iconic Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. More history is hidden in the Topkapi Palace, where you can glimpse the splendour and opulence of Turkey’s Ottoman heritage.
Take a stroll through the historic centre or the bustling Taksim Square before watching the sun set behind countless mosques and minarets. Local fish markets and numerous restaurants lining the bridge to Galata offer the Golden Horn’s daily catch.
If you prefer the fine art of bargaining to fine art, lose yourself in the Grand Bazar and maybe you’ll emerge with a hookah, some Turkish coffee, or even a carpet. The Spice Bazar further immerses you in the sights, smells, and tastes of Turkish culture.
Getting to Istanbul is an easy trip from Ataturk International Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport. Whether you want a luxury hotel on the Asian side or a budget hostel in Taksim Square, Booking.com has over 1,000 great accommodations for your holiday in Istanbul.

Istanbul can feel a little overwhelming and chaotic at the beginning. It is a beautiful city.
One must be prepared that English is not widely spoken and single women can be targeted by Turkish men. Be prepared to be 'ripped off' at least once.
I did feel safe there on my own but it is not for the faint hearted. Having traveled extensively I found Istanbul to be a little tricky to navigate around due to the lack of English signs etc.
Do visit the Basilica Cistern as it is quite amazing as is Hagia Sophia. A Bosphorus boat trip is also worth while. (unfortunately while I was there it poured with rain for the whole week)
The Blue mosque is also worth a visit but Hagia Sophia and the Cistern is far superior in my opinion.

Taxi drivers ripping customers off charging double the prices without meter’s usage. Expensive than UK with food prices. People haggling everywhere to get you I. Shops, probably part of culture. I think if the police or tourist guards do not clamp on taxi drivers then the tourist industry will definitely decline. Great country, healthy dogs and cats.

Istanbul is truly a city like no other—vibrant, historic, and full of life! Walking through its streets, you can feel the pulse of a place where East meets West in perfect harmony. The grandeur of the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque left me speechless, while the buzz of the Grand Bazaar was an adventure in itself.
The Bosphorus was breathtaking; watching the sun set over the water was a magical experience. The food? Simply fantastic! From the rich flavors of kebabs to the sweetness of baklava and Turkish tea, every bite was a delight.
But what stood out the most were the people—warm, welcoming, and always ready to share a smile. Istanbul is not just a destination; it’s a feeling, and one I’ll carry with me forever.

Fascinating city. Get away from the main sights.
Fascinating city. Get away from the main sights. Get a tram or ferry and explore the areas away from the tourist groups.
Eat in tiny local cafes, cheaper and so much more fun.
Engage with the locals, they are wonderful

Clean and well-equipped hotel. Fantastic and helpful staff throughout. The breakfast was fantastic with a great view. Very close to Taksim Square and there are so many locals in that zone.
We also used the transfer service to the airport and the price was so much better than the taxis in front of the airport that we used when we arrived.
