OK, so Geyre isn't much to speak of, though it was kind of cool to stay in the midst of active farms and "real" families with livestock in their yards. But the real attraction here is Aphrodisias. I have been to scores of Greco-Roman sites across the Eastern Mediterranean and this one must rank in the top ten for anyone interested in Roman imperial ideology, and is just a fabulously well-presented site for anyone interested in Roman history in general. I was astounded that so few people were visiting a site into which the Turkish government and private donors have poured so much effort and resources to make accessible and winsome.
