I was there for 5 days mainly at a yoga retreat where I ate, swam, read and relaxed. I spent one of the days on a tour of the island to see the main sights - beautiful temples and shrines, which was well worth it.
The yoga resort was a little remote - so needed taxi to get around the island. I'd look for somewhere a little more central for a future trip.

There is a high pollution on this Island.
There is a high pollution on this Island. Garbage everywhere and most tourists don’t care about and even let their own garbage at the beach.
Big amount of traffic all day long. Backpacker riding scooter also when drunk or smoked weed. Many accidents can be seen.

The streets in Samui are dirty, not taken care of.
The streets in Samui are dirty, not taken care of. There are no rubbish bins on common areas; I was always carrying my trash until I find a 7/11 shop- they have bins in front.
Many buildings are abandoned and left to deteriorate to rubbles. Those are places that many people and I guess locals throw their rubbish, so the view is not nice.
There aren't many things you can do in Samui - of course parties and cannabis are available. And there are beautiful beaches too.
Krabi and Phuket are way more diverse regarding activities for any kind of interest.

We took the car over from the mainland to Koh Samui which was a mission in itself. When we got to Koh Samui it was ok very much like the rest of Thailand. We come from NZ so are spoilt with beautiful beaches where we live so don't really see Beach's as a day out. The town is just like any other Town on the mainland. Was not really worth the trip over wished I had just stayed on the mainland. The weather whilst we were there was always overcast but always hot .we are not into the booze scene so cannot comment about clubs and drinking joints etc. cannabis is legal in Thailand now so plenty of variety of that's what your looking for. Lots of markets going on if you like cheap that. All in all average I probably will never go back.

Koh Samui airport is very comfortable to arrive at.
Koh Samui airport is very comfortable to arrive at. The residents are warm, friendly and I felt safe travelling there.
I found the use on concrete very disappointing around the island, more can be done to make this island more beautiful with the use of durable aesthetically pleasing materials as the top hotels have been made in exquisite style.
The beaches are breathtakingly beautiful.

I really don't understand why Koh Samui is so popular.
I really don't understand why Koh Samui is so popular. It's busy, it's expensive, kind of trashy in places. It's definitely not a tropical paradise. I went once and I'll definitely never go back.
