Martin and his family couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. Martin collected us from a nearby town and dropped us off the next day, fed us, and made sure that we had food for our hike on the next day.

I ended up at the fantastic museum National Museum Machado de Castro (highly recommended) in Penela, only to drive away 2 1/2 hours later and pass by so many other beautiful and amazing buildings (part of the University) I wish I had more time to explore :)

Penela is a remote place but accessible by a good network of roads in excellent shape. It is surrounded by farmland and the "villages" are small and quiet. Restaurants exist in Penela and around. I recommend the place for a good rest.
The rooms are very nicely equipped with a big and modern bathroom. The staff was very friendly and helpful with all of our questions. The breakfast was good (we had bread, jam, ham, cheese, a little Joghurt and drinks), but nothing special. The hostel is in the center of Penela and we had free parking opportunities nearby. For the low price it is a excellent place and I would definitely return to this hostel
Lovely hotel hidden in a valley, the rooms were large beds comfortable with proper showers in the en-suite.Slippers dressing gowns were provided. The breakfast provided was excellent as were the dinners. The staff were very helpful and were very well looked after. North - South motorway about five minutes away to get to major cities
A very good choice of breakfast items. Friendly, yet professional, and very helpful staff. The hotel is an an excellent location for exploring the local area and it's good that there is now a much better offering of bar food compared to our last visit.
The hotel is just amazing, perfect for a family week. The staff was super attentive and always ready to support any need. It was our wedding's anniversary and they prepared a special moment during our Dinner.
Modern interior. Nice Turkish steam room and pool. Good breakfast. Bar had nice snacks. Hotel provided robes to use the pool. Beautiful area and short trip to visit the Roman ruins and museum.
A friendly place to stay in a convenient location right in the centre of Penela. The accommodation is like a hotel in many ways with some hostel-style facilities such as a communal kitchen.
Penela is just great. The staff is really welcoming and there´s a vibe that surprised us a lot, the bar is quite fun and lot´s of international people around.
Everything was really good. The staff is specially friendly. We had both breakfast and dinner and both meals were very good. I totally recommend the hotel.
