Amazing place with everything one need. We visited many places on the island and this is certainly the best spot. Regeneration for body and soul with vertical ridge behind and ocean in front, situated in quiet romantic by-the-sea town. If you are willing to explore west of Madeira, choose this place.
Offering mountain views, Casa do Porto is an accommodation situated in Paul do Mar, 31 km from Girao Cape and 33 km from Porto Moniz Natural Swimming Pools.

A great location right next to the sea with local bars and restaurants seconds away. Easy walk to a small supermarket next to a bakery.
This small hotel in the west of Madeira offers a restaurant, a bar and panoramic views of the ocean. It is 100 metres from the beach and close to the village of Calheta.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Food in general was good, we particularly appreciated fresh bread, selection of delicious cheeses, always fresh and tasty fish served for lunch and dinner. The opportunity to eat at a la carte restaurants was a nice experience.
Set in tranquil Prazeres with Atlantic Ocean and mountain views, this 4-star hotel offers self-catering accommodation within 2 km of the Natural Park of Madeira.

As the beach road goes nowhere, the property is wonderfully quiet. Although we couldn't get into the sea where we were, it was great to see the crabs on the rocks. The village itself is very pretty, with a couple of restaurants - O Ideal was the best! We'd been recommended this by someone on the plane whose mother has a property there! There is a little beach there, with a shower, but it hadn't been made very usable when we went after a bad storm and it was early in the season: all pebbles with a pool made for safer swimming. The people were all lovely and spoke English.
It was a good spot to drive up into the hills to walk some levadas, go round the west of the island and to the north to swim there.

Great for visiting the northern and western parts of the island, but really poorly organized village to accommodate tourists. Villa Amore is the best hotel in the area and Maktub the perfect bar to watch the sunset post trekking

Little village on the west side of the island.
Little village on the west side of the island. You'll definitely need a car. Those who doesn't need Funchal facilities but rather prefers a calm atmosphere of a fisherman village with local people living their everyday life should visit this place. Also it is a good starting point to explore the western part of the island and Paul da Serra area.

Quiet seaside village on the south west coast around 50 minutes drive from the airport. Car required for access and should be confident driver as access roads from both ends are narrow, steep and winding. There is a hotel and enough café/snack bars as an alternative for self caterers. The village is part of a couple of listed walks. Also surfing opportunities at western end of the village.
