Location was great for visiting central Coimbra and the university.
The hotel is of the Grand Old Style, and breakfast reflected that, a delightful classical dining room and settings, great service. The toaster was a bit erratic - first slice came out white, the next brown, the third on fire - but that added to the charrm!

Portugal’s medieval capital, and a pioneer of fado music alongside its modern counterpart Lisbon, Coimbra is a vibrant university city with a good helping of historic sights.
The university is the country’s oldest and its attractive buildings cover a small hill overlooking the Mondego River. The institution has an excellent science museum, the ornate Joanina Library, and one of the world’s oldest botanical gardens which contributes to the lush landscape.
The midweek nightlife in the city’s bars and restaurants is popular with students, while shopping options range from the stores of the CoimbraShopping complex to smaller boutiques on cobbled streets in the historic Baixa district.
The medieval centre houses the museum of Coimbran sculptor Machado de Castro and the Old Cathedral, begun under the reign of the first Portuguese King, Afonso Henriques. He is buried in Santa Cruz Monastery, while the tomb of a later queen – Elizabeth of Aragon – is in the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova. She founded this hilltop convent to replace flood-prone Santa Clara-a-Velha below. Between them is Portugal dos Pequenitos where Portugal’s main monuments are reproduced in miniature.
Nearby is Quinta das Lágrimas, a 19th-century mansion that is now a luxury hotel on Booking.com. Also available are cheap hostels and guest houses near the 2 main train stations.

We were lucky enough to arrive during the last week of term for the university students, which made the town lively and interesting. The tour of the university , particularly the library, was fascinating. It was also lovely to walk through the old town, eat pastries, listen to music and absorb the atmosphere. Sitting in the Botanic gardens with a book in the afternoon sunshine was an opportunity to relax in otherwise busy days.

Coimbra is a delightful town to visit.
Coimbra is a delightful town to visit. The town is architecturally pleasing, with clean, safe, streets, and a refreshing lack of graffiti.
There is a good choice of hotels and restaurants, and those that we patronized were of good quality, with helpful staff, all of whom, in our experience spoke good English. Recommended

Our accommodation had the perfect location; we walked everywhere. The nearby restaurants were serving great food. Our street had 2 nice restaurants that were frequented by locals, and the prices were very reasonable compared to the more touristy places.

Coimbra is a great city to visit and use as base to explore other locations in central Portugal. Make sure you wear comfy shoes, the cobbles streets and walking is often up steep hills. The library is worth viewing at the university, but make sure you book in advance or get there early, as they have limited tickets and time slots. The parks are beautiful along the river and worth taking the time to visit. If adventuring out, highly recommend Obidos and the Buddha Eden garden, as well as Aveiro and Costa Nova.

Coimbra has a lot to offer travelers.
Coimbra has a lot to offer travelers. Centro (old part of town) is very lovely and has a lot to see. Many small interesting roads and pathways to walk around and see beautiful buildings, historical churchs, shops, cafes...Restaurants are reasonably priced and there is a variety of different cuisines to accommodate everyone. We stayed one night, but could have easily stayed another night.

Coimbra is a great city with very interesting historical sites and churches. Interesting shops and restaurants.
the Igreja santo Christo is especially good to visit situated in a lovely square. The adjoining old cafe has a wonderful atmosphere with a performance of FADO (traditional Portuguese music ) every weekday from 6pm
Appartment is located in the beautufull old center of Coimbra, in vicinity there are many cafes and restaurants and it is very easy to reach the University buildings from there. App is big enough, comfortable, clean and very nicely decorated, great view from the small balcony and hidden garden on the back side. I understand the same owner also runs nearby hotel Oslo, so you check in in the hotel and you can also store luggage there if needed. All personel is very kind and helpfull!
The location of the hotel is perfect as it’s right at the edge of the old city so walking distance to all the sights, restaurants and shopping. The rooms are comfortable, the parking is free and the buffet breakfast was ample and adequate. The staff is super friendly and helpful, always happy to provide any information required. The real jewel of this hotel is the rooftop terrace which is an absolutely beautiful spot to view Coimbra both day and night.
The renovation of the casa was exceptional. Very modern touches while keeping the historic details. The mattress was the most comfortable yet in all of our Portugal stays. Great communication. Overall a very special stay. The host left a bottle of wine and there were a lot of spices, cooking supplies, coffee pods, etc. We appreciated the casa allowing dogs to stay. We will definitely come back again at some point the future. Overall, highly recommended.
In terms of privacy and comfort, this was much better than I normally get for the price in Portugal. The terrace is also very nice, and has a nice view of the city. I liked the room, and getting a private sink for washing your hands etc. is a nice compromise between having all bathroom facilities shared, and a complete private bathroom which is usually more expensive. It’s situated in a very quiet area, and the room was very quiet in the night.
The apartment has literally everything you need to live. Coffee machine, dishwasher, good set of dishes, TV, great internet I have never seen in Portugal, you name it you have it. Backyard and garden in front are definitely value added. The owner is very nice and helpful, however she does not speak English beyond the very basics. Parking is not a problem and location is OK if you are planning trips by car outside of Coimbra.
I have stayed at Ibis Coimbra 3 times in the past month. In my my last I asked for a room with a vie wand the staff that checked me in said she is checking me in a room with view. When I checked in, my room was in 2nd floor where the front wall of hotel was almost completely blocking the view. The hotel was not crowded and I am wondering why I was not given a room on th e3rd floor where the wall was not blocking the view.
Pretty nice hotel centrally located. Walking distance to the most important sites to visit in Coimbra. I did like the fact that you can have access to the building and room by door code. Ricardo is very hospitable, please follow up his instructions to walk around the city, due to the hills in the city. The hotel is very clean, modern, comfortable. I do recommend Sete Restaurant, close to the hotel. Good Portuguese food.
Hotel Vitoria is conveniently located, exceptionally clean but simple, the staff are really helpful and welcoming and more than willing to give us tips to enhance our time in Coimbra. For some reason, no doubt a fault of mine, only one room came with breakfast so we, in the double room, paid for our breakfast, which was varied and very good. I would recommend this hotel without condition.
Fantastic property at one of the most strategic locations in central Coimbra, close to the exceptional botanical garden, the University, the old city, modern shopping, etc. etc. Emblematic! Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, perfect rooms and facilities, hearty breakfast, ... in two words ... your home in Coimbra ... all in the best tradition of Portugal and Coimbra.
The location is great and the place is exceptional.
The building is an historical place, and very well renovated. Rooms are modern and very comfortable. The breakfast served in the garden is delicious and the big swimming pool is ideal to chill and relax. finally the staff is very welcoming and friendly. It’s the best hotel we’ve been to in Portugal.
Loved this small hotel. Clean beautiful room. Lovely linens. Efficient and friendly staff. Excellent dinner in their garden restaurant. One of our favorite meals traveling through Portugal. Had the tuna and the fish. Lobby is so cool. Loved the vibe.
Breakfast buffet was delicious. Fruit, eggs breads, cheeses, meats. Good coffee options. Yum.
The location was EXCELLENT! Just don’t use GPS to find the apartment if you’re driving. Have the hotel Oslo staff show you the way. We’ll stock and lots of space. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Rita and the blonde woman at hotel Oslo reception (sorry I did not get your name!) we’re both fabulous and friendly.
beautifully designed hotel with the best breakfast we have had so far in Portugal. lovely patio looking over the river where breakfast is served and where one can have a drink and relax later in the day. The owner, Paula is an exceptionally charming host with many good suggestions for enjoying our stay in Coimbra.
One of the nicest., homely properties we staying Portugal.
Property has an interesting history and this is tastefully respected in decor and presentation.
Everything was done to perfection, hosts could not be more helpful, staff top class and food, much of which was produced on-site, was lovely.
The rooms are large, comfortable, and extremely clean. The breakfast was fantastic, everything was fresh, and the outdoor space was perfect. The staff was always willing to help and give advice about the stay. The hotel is right next to the Coimbra train station.
This property was incredible, the hotel was so beautiful and the staff were all so nice and helpful!
Perfect location to explore Coimbra - if you are debating of where to stay, just choose this property won’t regret it!
Everything was perfect! The house is really peaceful, clean, and welcoming. After several noisy and busy hostels through Portugal I really appreciate the calm of this place.
