Turangi is a convenient stop halfway between Auckland and Wellington. Few take-away and dining options. It seems like a good spot for trout fishermen. We selected take-aways for one meal and packaged microwave meals for a second meal. Next stop over on our round trip will be in Taupo.

Turangi has many interesting outdoor activities, and it is in the central North Island with mountains, rivers, Lake Taupo nearby, but we were just passing through and for us it was a place to break the long journey, rather than a destination in itself.

It's a great stopover location say between Auckland and Wellington but it's hard to find good food and the prices e.g. food and petrol reflect a lack of true competition and a feeling "well, you've got little choice"

A comfortable apartment with great views over Lake Taupo.
A comfortable apartment with great views over Lake Taupo. We stayed two nights and used it as our base for doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, so it was perfect for that. Oreti Resort is about 14km from Turangi, so you definitely need a car for eating out etc.

We found plenty to do in our 3 day stay.
We found plenty to do in our 3 day stay. We popped up to Taupo and went to Orakei korako. Then to beautiful lake Rotopounamu and walked around that. And did the picturesque river walk. We hired a rental car so we could look around easily. We could have easily filled in a whole week.

Central to some wonderful activities such as great rafting,...
Central to some wonderful activities such as great rafting, the walk Tongariro crossing, Ruapehu. 'Up market' accommodation is very limited but if you can get into the Tongariro Lodge, it is excellent. Worth the extra cost. The locals are helpful and the town has a nice relaxed non-touristy feel; however avoid leaving your car parked overnight on a street. Shopping, apart from Groceries is limited.
Lovely older style motel that has been well looked after.Facilities you might need were all there available. The motel is well laid out with colourful flowers in the garden areas. The lawn area is lovely to sit or for children to play on sunny days.Everything was clean and worked well in the motel. The beds were very comfortable. The motel is handy to Turangi shopping centre and there is a pizza cafe which has other meals on its menu just over the road.
Oreti Village is in a fantastic location overlooking Lake Taupo. The views from the balcony were fantastic. The apartment/chalet had everything we needed for a self-catered stay and was very clean. The beds were comfy, and the staff were very attentive. The on-site restaurant was open in the later part of the week and provided a good range of options. The fantails/pīwakawakas next to the balcony were a real treat!
The location was great, very close to an excellent restaurant called the Hare and Copper, the grounds were beautiful and we really enjoyed the tennis court. The location was convenient, quiet; it is a really lovely property.
The heating system in the lodge was excellent, and it warmed up the place quickly on frisky mornings. The staff was very helpful with activities and only recommended great ones.
Had to book at the last moment, so didn't have time to fully research the motel. It's an OK place, nothing particularily wrong with the place. A little dated perhaps. The parking for the room I stayed in was odd, as you parked around the back of the room, but the entrance was around the other side. Oh and NO AIR CON!! Great water pressure in the shower and good wi-fi.
The facilities in the room were adequate and everything was clean and tidy. The shower was very good and there was always hot water. The motel is close to Turangi shopping area.A cafe is across the road from motel that also does pizza and various takeaway foods.Although the heat pump wasn't working a 10 fin gas heater was supplied which heated the room nicely.
We really liked the location, only a 20 minute drive from the lodge to the Tongariro Crossing trail end where you catch the shuttles. We really liked that there was a shared kitchen, which made making our sandwiches for our hike a lot easier! The room was pretty large, nice to be able to spread out a bit. The facilities were very nice and clean as well.
Loved the 'fresh, hot water pool' and would've preferred the mineral pool. Hopefully the other three pools did have people in it rather than they closed the door rather than leave it open when finished.
Lovely location close to my friend's house at Waihi Beach. Didn't get to encounter the rest of Tokaanu. Definitely needs to be another visit.
It's spacious studio with car park conveniently in front of the door. In addition, a sunny backyard to enjoy the afternoon. Generally quiet and clean. We left my son's toy in the bed and the Rhett managed to find it and post it back to Wellington. Very nice experience with Judges Pool Motel. Thank you very much.
We had a great stay, very private and quiet. The continental breakfast was an added bonus.
Very friendly hosts and we would definitely stay again.
We highly recommend Tongariro Lodge for dinner. Great food and it's only a few hundred metres away
The apartment was quite clean, spacious and comfortable. The motel is close to Turangi shopping area. The TV reception was good this time with free view channels. The shower was very good.Adequate facilities in kitchen for cooking.
Great motel in Turangi, close to the river for morning walks. Good facilities, has everything you need. This is a quiet motel and we have stayed here four times now and we are never disappointed. We will come back.
The location is superb. The hot pools came in handy after a cold day in the ice and more importantly the children playground and the animal zoo were really a plus for a family friendly hotel.
We stayed here one night as a stop Mid journey
It was a great place to stay - peaceful fabulous views nice restaurant
Far better than staying in a motel unit in turangi
The hot pools are so relaxing. A great nights sleep after a dip in the pool. Rooms are well equipped and location is close enough to Turangi for a quick supermarket shop.
