We had dinner at 3 venues:
We had dinner at 3 venues:
1) Gustos - food is good, but somewhat more expensive for the overall experience. Atmosphere is warm & busy but has plastic flowers on the tables. On eof uur Char-Grilled Porterhouse Angus Steak (250gms) @ $45 unfortunately had to be returned as half a 1/4 of it was gristle & fat that was not good. But it was replaced.
The rest of the meal, fruits of the sea platter, and catch of the day were great. Deserts were tasty. [$370 for 4 people]
2) Area 41 - Italian - Overall experience was much improved. Price wise, meals were slightly cheaper with better portions. Wait staff were expecetionally friendly. Great Italian food & wine. Our best meal. [$420 for 4 people - including bottle of wine]
3) Peggy Gordon - Irish/Celtic Pub - on Sunday night it was quiet, with maybe 6 guests. But we had a hearty & tasty meal with good beer. Lamb shank was superb. ($250 for 4 people] the cheapest & probably best value for money

New Plymouth has a surprisingly thriving hospitality scene.
New Plymouth has a surprisingly thriving hospitality scene. There are so many places to eat and drink, and the whole city is walkable. I honestly go here for a boozey, face-stuffing, break from my usual routine.

The main street has a great variety of shops and eateries. The walk along the beach frontage is great. Pukekura gardens is excellent for a visit along with the Broadlands zoo. The one way streets can be a little confusing.

The Pukekura gardens are amazing.
The Pukekura gardens are amazing. A walk along the sea-side north of the town is also worth doing. And make sure you take in the incredible Pukeiti gardens on the west side of Mt Egmont on your way to or from New Plymouth.
Loved the funky decor, artwork and elegant guest lounge. Great location as the hotel was in the heart of New Plymouth with restaurants in walking distance and near to the Coastal Walkway. Luke was extra friendly and helpful.
Booked on line, the value for money was great, the views were good, (was rainy) very surprised at how well I was treated, ( iv stayed at other New Plymouth hotels) will be booking again, fantastic.
We stay at the Auto Lodge whenever we stay in New Plymouth. The hotel is comfortable, clean and in a great location with a pool. The beach is also a 5 min walk away behind the hotel.

Always would recommend this hotel and would always book here whenever we go to new plymouth😍🙂
Considering the type of people that Alex has in her property, it was a pleasant enough stay. She deals with a lot of delinquent people but she does it will.
