Friendly staff. Nice welcome when I arrived. Comfortable bed. Awesome kitchen. Nice breakfast bits and things provided. Fresh muffins and pastries in the morning. Very comfortable communial area.
The locality is quiet and peaceful. A short walk down the valley road and over the bridge to the park entrance and the Park Cafe. The community’s foreshore is frequented by taxi boats to Kaiteriteri and Park beaches, and kayaking groups but is generally quiet.
‘Hooked on Marehau’ is an excellent and moderately priced restaurant. Matt’s fruit and veg shed near the bridge provides fresh produce at excellent prices.

A great start location for the Abel Tasman walk.
A great start location for the Abel Tasman walk. The water taxi operators run a very slick operation and we highly recommend it. The Hooked restaurant offers great meals. However The Park Cafe at the start of the walk has beautiful views, a very cool vibe and we will definitely dine there on our next visit.

Marahau is quite small, and eating options are limited, but it's a very attractive safe place to walk around. We brought our own food, but if you want to eat out, suggest you research online and call ahead to check who is open and when, as things change seasonally.

Marahau was beautiful. It is a small township.
Marahau was beautiful. It is a small township. It only had one eatery & bar open whilst we were there and that was very nice. Another was opening on the 29th post our visit. The walks are accessible by a long timber walkway. The car park is large with toilets and notice boards. The main kayaking and water/boat hire places are throughout the main town area. Many boats are to take tourists etc out and drop them off at different walks and then go out and pick you up in the afternoon. You just have to make sure you are at the pick-up spots! The low tides are great and allow you to really access hidden areas along the beach. The main walks go a bit inland at times and some walkways were a bit slippery obviously had had major slips at some time? due to tremors, rain etc. Locals were friendly. sand white, waters blue! The weather went from amazing to windy and stormy one day!

Enjoyed it being bit quieter than The ever popular Kaiteriteri. ( used to go there ). A couple of cafes where you could eat or just have a nice coffee. Up the valley road the bird life with baby quails running everywhere and birdsong and cicadas much nicer than people and traffic noise. Really nice walking path along the beach .
