We were delayed in arriving so I phoned and they left a key out for us to collect as we arrived after office hours. We were able to have our 2 dogs in the cabin with us which was great as it was a very cold night. The heater was on for our arrival. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of blankets. Bathroom block was spotlessly clean and just a short walk.
Just 300 metres from the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools, Kakapo Lodge boasts a guest lounge with a log fireplace and a large communal kitchen and dining area.

The staff/owners and their family were very pleasant and helpful, and seemed to have integrity. The cleanliness was exceptional, and the room was warm and comfortable. The accommodation seemed safe with respect to security. The location was great and the cost reasonable.
The St James Premium Accommodation is a 5 minutes’ walk from the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa, restaurants and shops. Most accommodation overlooks Chisholm Park with views towards the mountains....

A charming Swiss chalet-like hostel full of character, warmth, and nice touches for guests. Tristan is a natural at hospitality, with an innate sense of guest need. Warm, cosy rooms, a log fire, comfy beds and armchairs, a well equipped kitchen, a place radiating backpacker hospitality at its best. Highly recommended. Will remember it well.

I grew up in Christchurch but now live in Melbourne so it was nice to take my partner there. Our family spent many stays in Hanmer growing up in the 80's.
It is nice to see that Hanmer still has the same charm and feel of Swiss Alps.
There is still mini golf; Hanmer Hotel and the walk up conical hill- all the things I remember.
It has grown and I see a lot more tourism but the Alpine resort feel especially in winter is still there....

A quiet Canterbury town with a restorative atmosphere.
A quiet Canterbury town with a restorative atmosphere. It has has not yet succumbed to big business high rise accomodation and over- commercialism, as seen in Wanake and Queenstown. It’s only 90 mins drive from Christchurch and its international airport. It’s cool in both senses. In a secluded valley off the main highway. Thoroughly recommend it for visitors to New Zealand. You can sit in hot pools, go mountain biking or walking. And there’s a farm animal zoo close by for the children. The adventurous can go bungee jumping. There’s skiing close by. And 4-wheel drives shirt and long.

Hanmer Springs is a great break away.
Hanmer Springs is a great break away. For most people, the Hot Pools, nice accommodation and restaurants are the main attractions. Our only negative is that as we drive a Battery Electric Vehicle, there is no fast charger in Hanmer Springs. There are two slow chargers at the pools, and we made use of one of those while we had a swim. The nearest fast charger is at Culverden and there's always a queue in our experience.

The Hot Pools are a great drawcard, always popular.
The Hot Pools are a great drawcard, always popular. Some great restaurants, cafes and bars. Lots of trees, provide welcome shade in summer. Plenty of walking and cycling tracks. Water sports - rafting, jet boats, fishing etc. Craft market on a Saturday. Always a busy place for locals and tourists, so book early.

This was one of the best properties on our travels.
This was one of the best properties on our travels.
Loved the location. Everything we needed. Even towels for the hot pools. Cabin warm and very comfortable. I could have stayed longer.
Hot pools were amazing.
I would love to come back.
The place is opposite the Hanmer Springs water park. It’s is very handy for the shops and restaurants and also on the trail to the lookout point.
The room was nice and met our requirements. The room had dining and a breakout area near the tv, so plenty of space.
The staff were very friendly and offered us to use the hotel towels for the water park which was very kind as we had checked out.
The staff member was very friendly and hospitable. The room was spacious with excellent facilities and was in a pleasant garden setting. It was centrally located do the cafes, bars and restaurants of Hanmer Springs, and the thermal pools. There was a variety of walks to do around the town. The town itself was vibrant without being overly touristy.
Oakview was amazing. We have travelled to different places around the world and this was right up with the best. Everything has be thought of. Luxury fittings, dark curtains, comfortable bed…the list could go on. Close enough to walk to all Hanmer Springs has to offer. We will be back for sure.
Loved the huge rooms, with magnificent views looking towards Hanmer Springs and mountains.
Very private outlook from our room.
Very comfortable bed.
Lovely large enclosed shower.
Not that we used them but indoor and outdoor spa’s and big open fire place add to luxury feel.
The location was perfect for all the things that Hanmer Springs has to offer. The staff were amazing with suggestions for things to do. The kids had a lovely time choosing and watching movies borrowed from the reception.
Superb all round. Terrific friendly staff. And ... a rarity amongst NZ motels ... good coffee along with proper milk - so simple, yet so rare. Room was warmed in anticipation of our late arrival back from the pools.
Space for the kids to play. Well equipped kitchen. Great selection of movies to watch when it was wet. Cabins had good set out with space for bags and gear and plenty of hooks to hang towels and jackets.
Ideal location, perfect accommodation for a family visit to Hanmer. Will definitely stay here again next time we come to town. We stayed in a 2br apt, full kitchen facilities, nice private patio, all good.
Very enjoyable stay. Room was extremely comfortable, wonderful breakfast spread, good location at a short drive/long walk into town. Would stay here again if traveling to Hanmer Springs.
The hotel is gorgeous - beautifully renovated and maintained. The historical photos are fascinating. The staff are excellent and the food in the restaurant for dinner was delicious.
Our room was immaculate and had everything we needed for a short break away. I loved the fact that there was a mini kitchen in our room. Underfloor heating was a real luxury.
