Picture-Postcard Norway
Gateway to the western fjords, Bergen is a picture-perfect postcard of Norway at its best. Colourful, wooden houses in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen contrast wonderfully with the lush greenery of the surrounding Seven Mountains.
For fantastic views of Norway’s 2nd largest city, hop on the cable car to Ulriken Mountain. Alternatively, hike or take the funicular railway up to Fløyen Mountain. With beaches sheltered from the North Sea by islands, Bergen is Norway’s busiest port and a popular starting point for fjord cruises and deep sea fishing.
The fish market in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a popular attraction, while just north is 12th-century St Mary’s Church. Around 100 years younger is Bergenhus, one of Norway’s best-preserved forts. Further north is Gamle Bergen, a reconstructed wooden village offering insight into the past.
Cobbled Strandgaten street and Lagunen Storsenter shopping centre are just some shopping options, but items aren’t cheap. As you wander around the city look for work by Dolk, Norway’s best-known street artist. Other cultural offerings are the many museums and a good music scene ranging from classic to indie.
Booking.com’s range of Bergen accommodation extends out towards Bergen Airport in Flesland, the departure point for many workers on the offshore oil and gas rigs.

A few days in Bergen is just the right amount of time to see most of the main attractions including a boat tour to the fjords. The Old Harbor, Bryggen, has lots of charm and an abundance of good restaurants...although a bit pricey!

Ease to visit sites etc. Used bus & walked.
Ease to visit sites etc. Used bus & walked. Did not enjoy the crowds of summer the off season would suit a quieter holiday but if like buzzy & noise then go in the summer. The narrow laneways are a must to look through plus the little museum house on yesteryear. The cable car was great including the goats in the park.

Amazing city. Compact and so much to do.
Amazing city. Compact and so much to do. We are outdoorsy by nature and Bergen was a dream. The Ulriken, Floya, Mount Prest in the Flam region. We managed to hike all of them. Public transport is amazing
Lot of eating options - we had great Eritrean food at the Horn of Africa- delicious. Also some great falafel snd shawarma joints. Lot of vegetarian options as well. we did a day trip to Flam including stopping at the Twindefossen waterfall, Flamsbana, Stegastein view point, Mount Prest hike, Undredal Stave church and cheese factory.Still came off thinking there is a lot more we couldn’t do
Overall a great city to visit

Bergen is a beautiful city with a very relaxed atmosphere, plenty of restaurants and bars ( not cheap though ). It is in a stunning location with a good range of Fjord cruises available which are a must do. Because of its location you do need a bit of luck with the weather, I was very fortunate on my stay.

Floyen mountain on foot, aquarium, Nordnes winter swimming...
Floyen mountain on foot, aquarium, Nordnes winter swimming pool are great attractions. I ate in the apartment, there are plenty of shops opened from 7 am to 11 pm. I was without a car, but I bought a Bergen pass for free days, I used the public transport. But I was mainly walking. Beautiful district is near Johanneskirken, unfortunately the church was closed. In generally, all churches in Norway are opened only once per week. I was disappointed in museums expositions, it was a waste of time for me to visit. Edward Munk everywhere. Nobody can really see there, in Oslo or in Bergen, the works of the greatest Norwegian artist as Hans Hude, Adolph Tidemand, Thomas Fearnley and many others. It is the same, as to leave Norway without Edward Grieg! Political demonstrations in both cities held until the sunset, Free Palestine. Disturbing, has nothing to do with Norway really. Locals not taking part in it. Why not arrange public discussions on OWN issues?
The hotel has a great location so that you can walk to the famous harbour. The breakfast was outstanding. The ladies at the front desk were efficient and friendly. The parking , though a little awkward, worked well enough (190 Kroner per day, and you need to get the card from the front desk to go in and out), but this is Bergen and that seems to be the going rate. Really good, clean, bathroom and every thing worked well. The price seemed quite reasonable for Norway.
Cheap as for Bergen but still rather pricey, like the whole Norway. My room was very small, half filled by the bed, with absolutely minimal furniture. But the outside kitchen was well equipped. WiFi working well. Bergen accessible by bus, but outside peak hours running once per hour, may require long wait especially when returning later during the day. Bus needs to be changed into tram at "Nestun terminal", no direct connection.
Hotel was wonderful - friendly staff, very nicely decorated and clean. The room had blackout shades, which was a must-have in Norway summer. It took us about 20 minutes to walk down to the harbor, but it was a scenic walk and we enjoyed stopping at cafes, shops, etc along the way. Would absolutely stay again. Parking was very easy once the staff explained how to access it.
One of the best stays during our Month in Norway. Apartment is very tastefully set up and a credit to the owners.
Quite at night and really only a leisurely 10 minute stroll down to the bus station and maybe 15 minutes down to the center of Bergen. We were in the top apartment so be aware its stair access only although this was not an issue for us.
The location of this hotel is just a short walk to the airport! We had a very early flight, so the location was amazing. The pizza we ordered to take back to our room after our long day of sight-seeing was delicious, the room was clean, quiet, and comfy. We wish we could have stayed longer as it was easily the best hotel of all that we stayed at!
Montana is definitely a good choice when deciding where to stay in Bergen. The rooms are cozy, there's everything you need. We also enjoyed every breakfast to the fullest! It really made our Norway experiences even better! :) The location is a bit far from city centre, but since there's a bus station really close, it was okay!
Renate welcomed us in the finest way! She is really friendly and gave us wonderful tips to visit Bergen and told us plenty of stories about Norway. The city centre can be easy reached by bus (15 minutes), the room was small but comfortable. Good and complete breakfast! You’ll love the stay! Thanks Renate
A beautifully elegant hotel, where nothing is too much trouble. Very friendly, welcoming and attentive staff. Nice touches throughout. Attractive rooms. Excellent breakfast choices in a comfortable environment. We stayed in some lovely places during our Norway trip, this was our favourite.
One of the best hotel breakfast I’ve had with so much options. All staff very super friendly and helpful. The location is great with the hotel positioned in the middle of Bergen central, with walking distance to most of what Bergen has to offer. Would definitely book again if visiting Bergen.
Outstandingly clean, one of the best hotels during our stay to Norway.
It was just one night stop over after arriving to get settled in before went hiking but we were really impressed with this hotel, we enjoyed the facilities (pool table, big tv in rooms, bar)
Room was a little small but the doors opening onto the small balcony were a lovely touch, pleased they had not been sealed up. The buffet breakfast was the best I've had in Norway so far, vast selection, healthy options, well cooked and presented.
Super friendly staff. The hotel’s location is good to take a tram to the city center and the airport. The facilities in the room are also very nice. I definitely will stay here when I visit Bergen next time.
Beautiful home! Made for an exceptional stay in Bergen- close to the city center, spacious, and clean, with friendly and helpful hosts. Thank you to the hosts for an unforgettable vacation in Norway!
Very good location. Nice, clean rooms. Good quality shower gel and shampoo. Comfortable bed. Reasonable price for Norway conditions. Good hotel for a longer stay in Bergen (I lived there for 7 days).
This was the best hotel accommodation in the entirety of our trip to Norway. Best location by the harbor, awesome views, comfortable beds and large but cozy apartment with fully equipped kitchen.
Aesthetically beautiful, superb staff, service far beyond the norm for Norway, perfect location, comfy beds. This was our fourth time staying, and we love coming back.
