Sleeping on a boat is a great experience in itself. But this boat is far too expensive for what it is and for the services (cf bad points below).
Hotel Spaander is located in a prime position in Volendam on the banks of the Lake Markermeer. This historical hotel dating back to 1881 has a truly authentic Dutch feel to it.

You should visit Monnickendam in April. The weather was inclement, rainy and cold, when I visited in early March. It's a wonderfully quaint, beautiful and quiet town with lovely architecture, a few shops and eateries and the last thing you'll see is other tourists.

A beautiful village 20minutes by public transport from the centre of Amsterdam.
The location is a quiet village but with plenty of restaurants and snacks available. There is a local supermarket and specialist artisan shops.
We ate at most of the restaurants alongside the canal. Harbour suits and Bobs are especially friendly and have good food.
As a base for a city break to Amsterdam it is perfect. You are close enough to enjoy the highlights, hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. The quiet easy pace of Monnickendam provides a pleasant contrast with its slower pace and tranquility.
We loved this beautiful holiday home right on the riverside. Our hosts were really helpful when we arrived and the apartment was clean and had everything we needed. Monnickendam is very pretty with lovely places to eat and perfectly located for a trip to Amsterdam which we did on the bus in 30 mins. We explored Volhendam, Edam and Marken by bike. Fabulous stay would 100% recommend. Thanks Joke and Peter 😍
