This was a boutique hotel in a very central location. Above a bistro. The Web site said no meal plan available but we were able to book breakfast on check in.
Our room was very tastfully decorated but we are not fans of no door on bathroom which seems to be a current trend and quite unnessary in our opinion. Breakfast was individual including various breads,cheese and yogurt etc. Free tea and coffee on landing.

Alkmaar surprised me in many ways, a beautiful place, with lots to see and do. Great cafes, restaurants, local shops. The people are very kind, I highly recommend visiting, I will definitely come back more often. From Amsterdam central station you can take the Intercity train, which takes around 30 minutes. I recommend the 1840 Foodbar restaurant and the Anne&Max café, both excellent.

We were lucky during our stay Alkmaar celebrated the 450 Years Ontzet from the Spaniards. The festivities were awesome. Alkmaar was very central for us in the Netherlands. We visited the great St Laurent church, Bergen, Bergen aan Zee, Egmond aan Zee, Amsterdam, Zaanse Schans, Den Helder and walked the beautiful parks in Alkmaar.

A lovely alternative to Amsterdam - the water courses around the city give the place a very special feel. And the people are very helpful and friendly. If you get a chance to, dine at Herren van Sonoy, a restaurant just a short walk away from the Grand Hotel Alkmaar on Gedempte Nieuwesloot.

If you want a mini-Amsterdam experience without the big city...
If you want a mini-Amsterdam experience without the big city hassle, Alkmaar is the place to go. Very "Dutch" but on a much smaller scale than other cities. Lots of cute lanes to wander down, an amazing church, loads of cute coffee shops and artisan boutiques. Excellent bars and restaurants - and of course, a few canals and too many bikes!

we enjoyed our stay and visit to Alkmaar immensely. The hotel location was excellent . The cheese market on Friday was very enjoyable . Beautiful place with plenty of bars and restaurants .Recommend Gunnery's Irish Bar and Bistro 13 de Balcken food & staff excellent :)

It was great to stay in another part of the Netherlands...
It was great to stay in another part of the Netherlands other than Amsterdam. I would say it is more suited to couples, older people or families. There are some coffee shops but the feel of the town is much calmer and more chilled than Amsterdam. One of the pluses is that there is a great High street where you can find some little gems and some fantastic places to eat and drink.
Staying in a former prison was a truly unique experience. Very modern furnishings, nice hot showers, bed was very comfortable, we liked the fact that our dog had her own separate „room“ to sleep in (we stayed in room 218). Location was perfect: in a quiet area, with a nice dog-friendly park right beside the hotel, lovely foot/bike paths all around, short (15 min.) walk into town, lots of restaurants nearby. Staff was very friendly. Did not use the gym or related facilities.
I absolutely loved it. Everything about my stay was enjoyable - my favourite place I stayed in the Netherlands! The location was so close to the center and just a stone’s away from the cheese market (the reason I went to Alkmaar), the room was private and super clean, and the staff was all friendliness and welcoming. I loved being able to sit in the middle of the hotel and get to know other guests as well!
Fantastic central location, spacious and well equipped apartment, perfect for a short stay. Alkmaar is a beautiful town with much of the charm of Amsterdam, but much less busy and touristy. The kitchenette was a real bonus to be able to make coffee and tea or snacks, and is very well stocked - although there are so many great bars and restaurants within a short distance anyway.
We had a wonderful stay an Com-In recently.
We were traveling by car and needed a convenient place to park , while having easy walking access to the city. Com-In has that , but the apartment is also very well appointed and well thought out. Our host was very friendly and welcoming!
Highly recommended stay and a great base to explore Alkmaar from!
The room was nice and spacious, the breakfast had a good selection and the location of the breakfast corner was nicely oriented to have a good view of the nearby lake.
The location of the hotel is within walking distance to the train station. As long as you've calibrated your GPS correctly ;)
Perfectly right in the middle of Alkmar. Typical netherlands style with simple, tasteful furniture and equipment, very small stairs and rooms. Very nice pub in basement, friendly reception. Really good and recommended breakfast.

I really enjoyed the location of the hotel, which was situated along the water and surrounded by many great shops and restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel was great; the food was delicious and the staff was very friendly.
Very nice and modern hotel with a Japanese restaurant next to it. The room was nice and comforable with a fridge, coffee machine, a perfect bed and a great rain shower. The breakfast was fine with plenty of choice.

Hotel was nicely renovated. New decor, beautiful bathroom and cozy setting. Room temperature was perfect when we were visiting during the winter. The reception even upgraded our room for free.
This was a really quirky, trendy hotel. Loved the decor and the huge window in our room looking out onto the street. The location was perfect. The owner was very helpful.
