Booked for 2 weeks for 3 working men (not tourist) - good choice. Everything we needed after work - place to wash, make a laundry, prepare food and relax. There are no luxuries here but we didn't expect it. We had problem with air condition - the host responded quickly and repaired the fault.

Bayview Hotel by ST Hotels, hotel in Siġġiewi

Bayview Hotel & Apartments offers a 24-hour internet café, and a rooftop swimming pool overlooking the harbour at Sliema. Some accommodation comes with a balcony, and some feature sea views.

It was well located to local restaurants and transport links such as buses and ferry’s. The CEO would walk around the breakfast room and chat with guests, making recommendations about things to do and see and hear was very friendly and knowledgeable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful if asked a question.

The Westin Dragonara Resort, Malta, hotel in Siġġiewi

Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in St Julian's, The Westin Dragonara Resort, Malta offers 2 private beaches, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, one of which is heated, and 3 restaurants.

The accommodation was brilliant and met our needs perfectly - 2 widowed friends wanting company but at the same time to have their own space. The staff were great, particularly on reception where they demonstrated extreme patience when we got in a ‘muddle’ when having to pay (in full plus an allowance) on arrival. We were not expecting this and were tired from the journey. The facilities are amazing and managed to ‘absorb’ all the guests without giving the feeling of overcrowding.

The place is definitely not touristy, which is great if you want to experience a real local vibe. On the other hand it means that there's not much to do - sights are very limited, as well as dining options. It's a good base to explore Malta if you have wheels. Getting to Gozo was less practical - you'll spend 1,5 hrs each way (including ferry).

Siggiewi is a small relatively quiet town away from Valleta and the urbanisation that has spread throughout the north eastern side of Malta. If you want access to these areas know you are rarely more than 30mins away from almost anywhere on the island. You'll also be guaranteed sunshine and temperatures you can cope with in September. Good food is everywhere the only sad thing personally is the lack of wildlife. The extinction that climate activists talk about seems to have already happened on this island. What a shame.

It's an authentic village/small town location with a series of good local restaurants and a great local wine bar. Regular buses provide access to all the main Island towns and sites or it provides a good jumping off point if you have your own transport. Dominated by a huge old church and classic town square with local shops and facilities. Worth a wander through the narrow streets of the old town after dark and a glass or two of local wine in the Levels Wine Bar.
