We had a wonderful stay with Summi and Mal. The house is very large and very beautiful. The room is very pleasant and above all there is a magnificent terrace where we had breakfasts and dinners. The food prepared by Mal is very good and very plentiful. We were welcomed by a very warm family and it was very pleasant to chat in the evening with Sara, Chathmi and Mal. In short, you understand, we highly recommend this address. I forgot to say that the family rented us a scooter during our stay for an extremely reasonable price. We were able to explore the entire region. Early in the morning we went swimming with the turtles. It's a wonderful memory. In short, you can go there without hesitation.

Polhena beach is an excellent place to have a safe swim for a traveller and can see turtles in the sea if you are lucky enough. And can visit Matara light house and Kudawalla water air hole by travelling a bit from Matara which has another nice beach.

Polhena is a nice village, Matara is a nice city with friendly people. There is lots to do in this area.
For example guided snorkling at Polhena Beach where you can really swim with the turtles, a boattrip on the Nilwala Ganga where you can see crocodiles.
Or visit the Starfort.
A great restaurant in Matara city is Dutchmanstreet restaurant. In Polhena i recommend eating at Sunil Rest, Blue Corals or Reef Edge restaurant.
Walking around at night in Polhena... take a stick and flash light with you, the street dogs just had puppys (cute) but their mother instinct gave me the creeps.

Matara is great transport hub, has fast bus connection with Colombo (via expressway). Also most buses on south pass through Matara. Though it's not a good place to stay longer - crowds, no good beaches, high prices.

But it was nice still. Thank you Matara. I love to live in Matara for real. Its so chill out places out there in all of the island . ❤🧡😊

We stayed at Turtle Eco Beach Hotel.
We stayed at Turtle Eco Beach Hotel. Olympic or near Olympic length pool, but only two lanes wide. Quite unique. The owners are French as are many of the guests. But so many languages can be heard there. Very family friendly!
We traveled back and forth to Polhena Beach (about 1.5 km to the south) for snorkeling daily. (Between 08:00 AM and noon, the water is the clearest.) Sadly, during our stay, the daily low tides coincided with - roughly - that same span of time, so we had to be extra careful to avoid getting scratched up by the coral reef.
Our stay was for three days from 15-18 January. We saw sea turtles every day and could even feed them "sea grass" by hand.
We ate near the hotel or near Polhena Beach and avoided going into town...
The room is clean and comfortable. Mini jungle in front of the bed room.. Linen, bed sheets and towels are very clean and comfortable. Nice bathroom with hotwater. Breakfast was amazing and big include Home made cocanut rotti, hoppers good fruits, Egg, toasted bread, butter and marmalade, tea and coffee .. Surfing beach infront. Very easy to public transport. Bus stop infront of the property. Tuk tuk and rent scooter provide for reasonable price.. Host and family are amazing very kind and really helpful with good tips. Definitely come back..
This hotel is right in front of the beach with only 5 nice rooms and the loveliest staff you can imagine. The air-con in our room was working perfectly and silent, the bathroom was modern, clean and with warm water.
The homemade breakfast had several options to choose and everything tasted delicious.
There are several surf shops, convenience stores and restaurants nearby and Janaka, the manager was always there to help us.
We fully enjoyed our stay and can only recommend coming here
Location was awesome if you looking for more local and less touristy feel :)) Family is very lovely and helpful. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is available on request,reasonable prices. Bonus very delicious traditional Sri Lankan food!! :)) smoothies,fruit juices also available.They have chill area by the beach. Town in walking distance. You can go up the light house on Saturdays, spectacular views. Matara is also not far with transport. Thank you for the wonderful time, much love!
The room is big, clean and newly made, at least it looks like it. The hotel stuff is amazing friendly and extremely helpful with anything. In particular the Manager Gobi is the best person which we made in Sri Lanka, helpful with any kind of question, very fair and friendly. We cannot say enough thank you to him.
Besides the tuktuk drivers for the hotel are also amazing the first time in Sri Lanka since 2 weeks we had trustworthy driver. Full recommendation for the place.
The property is beautifully designed and the build quality of the villas and rooms is very high. It’s located on an uncrowded beach with few houses and great waves. The owners are the best and most experienced hosts we’ve ever had and made us feel at home and welcome from the first minute we arrived. The staff is super friendly and go above and beyond to make you feel in paradise. Bonus: a superb pool area and heavenly yet affordable massages and great food.
Beautiful house nestled amongst the trees. Lovely to sit outside and watch the animals go by. It felt like our own private slice of paradise in Sri Lanka! Only a short distance walk from the beach and main part of town.
The house was spacious and clean and the hosts were always available if we ever needed anything. Super friendly and welcoming, we felt very relaxed during our stay.
We even stayed for an extra week we loved it so much!

This is a great location. Next to the restaurants, in front of the best snorkeling spot and far away from a lot of the chaos around the beach. Gopi is a gem and does everything he can to make your stay pleasant. He even got the cook to wake up early and make me sambol before my trip :). The hotel is humble and nice. It is quite when it needs to be ans provides access to the music when wanted.
Fun bohemic place right next to all great restaurants. Awesome surf spots closeby and a 10 minute walking distance to good swimming beach Polhena. There is also a small beach and snorkeling spot right there.
Helpful and very friendly staff and owner Michel was always there to help with anything.
We stayed with family and resort is very safe for kids and swimming pool was warm and nice.
Great location, 10 minute walk to Talalla beach. We had delicious breakfast and dinner there every day and Nisha and Prasath were very kind and friendly. We used the 2 bicycles to explore the countryside. Self serve laundry, kitchen and drinking water on site were greatly appreciated. Also a ride to the bus stop when we were leaving.

This is an absolutely idyllic place, literally right on the ocean and a 10 minute walk to Polhena beach and loads of delicious food. The room was spacious and the fridge freezer made life so easy. Lovely terrace outside the room and sleeping with the sound of the ocean was amazing. We felt really welcome and Ruzaik is so friendly and helpful, we would have been lost without him!
Directly across the road from the beach you can not get anymore central. There is a beach bus restaurant across the road which was super convenient. It is basic so don’t expect anything fancy here. No hot water and okay bed and there is noise from surrounding bars. We just enjoyed sitting on the balcony with a drink watching the world go by!
Amazing private hotel, cozy, nice pool, great location facing the beach. The villas are well located so that there is privacy for all guests. The beach is great for surfing and swimming, clean sand, not many people. Myriam and Jean made sure that our stay was enjoyable and Axel helped us ride our first waves. Lobster dinner was the best
Excellent staff and yummy breakfast. Nice facilities and shows that the take care of their property. Location is fair, the beach is quiet which is nice but still a tuk tuk ride from main beaches and restaurants. There are a few good restaurant options near the hotel. Good value.
Room is spacious with comfortable bed, great working A/C, nice chairs. Very close to Polhena beach (we just got to know about the private beach the day we checked out...staff didn't tell us before). The pool is great to relax, although the chemicals were a bit aggressive.
I had a great stay here! The family is so hospitable and kind. They will do everything to make you enjoy your stay:) The room was nice and it was only a five minute bicycle ride towards Polhena beach. Would definitely recommend staying here!
