The room was comfortable and very pleasant. We were just a few metres (4?) from the beach and our window looked out to sea. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning very effective. The food was great too. The beach was quiet and pleasant. It was the nicest place we’ve stayed at this price point in Sri Lanka. The manager was so helpful and welcoming, he really cared. Good birding not far from the villa. Highly recommended.

Super nice rooms and also the Hang out area is cool. Just know that you can reach a beach Right from the lot, but you can’t Go Swimming there and Surfing is only got intermediates and advanced Surfers.
Staff is really nice to the street dogs there, which i really liked. And the dogs are really friendly.

Polhena beach is an excellent place to have a safe swim for a traveller and can see turtles in the sea if you are lucky enough. And can visit Matara light house and Kudawalla water air hole by travelling a bit from Matara which has another nice beach.

Polhena is a nice village, Matara is a nice city with friendly people. There is lots to do in this area.
For example guided snorkling at Polhena Beach where you can really swim with the turtles, a boattrip on the Nilwala Ganga where you can see crocodiles.
Or visit the Starfort.
A great restaurant in Matara city is Dutchmanstreet restaurant. In Polhena i recommend eating at Sunil Rest, Blue Corals or Reef Edge restaurant.
Walking around at night in Polhena... take a stick and flash light with you, the street dogs just had puppys (cute) but their mother instinct gave me the creeps.

Matara is great transport hub, has fast bus connection with Colombo (via expressway). Also most buses on south pass through Matara. Though it's not a good place to stay longer - crowds, no good beaches, high prices.

We stayed at Turtle Eco Beach Hotel.
We stayed at Turtle Eco Beach Hotel. Olympic or near Olympic length pool, but only two lanes wide. Quite unique. The owners are French as are many of the guests. But so many languages can be heard there. Very family friendly!
We traveled back and forth to Polhena Beach (about 1.5 km to the south) for snorkeling daily. (Between 08:00 AM and noon, the water is the clearest.) Sadly, during our stay, the daily low tides coincided with - roughly - that same span of time, so we had to be extra careful to avoid getting scratched up by the coral reef.
Our stay was for three days from 15-18 January. We saw sea turtles every day and could even feed them "sea grass" by hand.
We ate near the hotel or near Polhena Beach and avoided going into town...
This was the best guest house we have stayed in after 7 years of living in Sri Lanka. The owner had thought of every little detail! He gave us welcome snacks and tea on arrival, the room was super clean with everything from beach mats, to a hairdryer to double sheets and the room even had an outside areas to relax and dry clothes. We were advised check out time was anytime we wanted and the breakfast was enormous. We were even given doggy bags to take away any food we couldn’t eat. Highly recommended 🫶🏼
The location was exceptional, beachfront and able to sit watching the surfers and the turtles while enjoying drinks and food from the little cafe. The staff, especially the main host guy were fantastic, so welcoming and giving us information about the property and local area. You have the choice of their 2 cafes, the seafood (yellowfin tuna and sea bass) was the best food we
have had during our stay in Sri Lanka.
We were sad to leave this place and will definitely be back!
This was one of our favorite homestays on our trip threw Sri Lanka. The rooms where super nice and clean, the food was the best of the whole trip and the owner Priyantha is the kindest person we have ever met! The Homestay is situated in a super calm area, very close to the beach and has a super cool rooftop chill area! The view is a amazing from up there, plants everywhere even a yoga area!! Super cute place we can highly recommend :)

this place was the best where we stayed in Sri Lanka, property is simple, but has everything you need (umbrella, snorkelling masks, beach carpet etc.) 20m to the beach, 2km to city centre, but it was not problem as there was bicycle free of charge. The biggest contribute was made by host Chaami, who is friendly, helping and provides us the best service in this country! Highly recommend this guest house.
This is a great location. Next to the restaurants, in front of the best snorkeling spot and far away from a lot of the chaos around the beach. Gopi is a gem and does everything he can to make your stay pleasant. He even got the cook to wake up early and make me sambol before my trip :). The hotel is humble and nice. It is quite when it needs to be ans provides access to the music when wanted.

The hotel is located a bit far away from the main center so it's very quiet and relaxing, it is just 2 steps from the sea and a very beautiful little beach which is luckily untouched by tourists. The room is big and spacious and the bathroom is outdoor. The staff is always super available for any help.
As others have said the best thing about this guest house is the manager. Janaka is a real gentleman and so accommodating. The property itself is a few metres from the beach, through its beachtop restaurant. The rooms are comfy and clean. The stringhopper breakfast is outstanding
Discovered this hidden gem in Polhena – totally mesmerized by its beauty! It's like a slice of Bali with a well-equipped villa, beautifully designed cozy rooms, a chill living space, and a fully equipped kitchen with modern utensils. I only wish I had stayed longer!
Beautiful location near the beach, awesome people, very good atmosphere. Too bad I couldn't stay longer. I will come back and stay one week next time. There's also this juice bar right next to the homestay. It's lovely! You cannot find a better place in the area.
This was one of my favourite stays in Sri Lanka. When we entered there was a great smell of freshly cleaned. For me it had one of the best showers here with great water pressure. The location was amazing right at the beach and the host couple was extremely nice.
