This is my second time staying at Pana Hotel. I must say they've improved their services significantly since my previous stay in 2022. I paid with my USA issued visa card (this form of payment wasn't available during my previous stay) and it there was no transaction issue. The room was spacious and super clean. Toiletries from L'Occitane was an added bonus. Breakfast was really nice offering variety of selections including hot meals (omelettes). I also liked how they serve cappuccino with water on the side, just like in Italy. :-) I also dined several times at their restaurant "Tary" and they offer some really delicious choices of local cuisine. I'm also glad to see that they have installed little bells on tables to call the wait-staff, so I don't have to wave or hail anyone to place our orders.

There isn't a great deal to do here. The city has parks and the city centre is neat and tidy, so you can relax. Also November probably isn't a good month, so in the summer the parks will be in bloom. Almost nobody seems to speak English which can be frustrating when you want information about travel, for example. The Visit Shymkent offices are invariably closed (either near Shymkent Plaza or in the Grand Hotel) though if you catch one open, someone will try to help. A trip to Turkestan is just about worth the hassle but arranging transport might be difficult.

Lovely city with friendly people.
Lovely city with friendly people. Lots of cafes, restaurants, and ice cream vendors. It is very hot in summer, but the city is fool of parks and boulevards with trees. It is a great place to explore the south of Kazakhstan, Turkestan is 3 hours away in train.

No tourist info centres. Very little to see in terms of sights. Nice parks. We stayed a week and it was four days too long.
The red bus leaves from near the Hotel Shymkent. It only operates in the evenings. A trip on it coverers everything - which is hardly anything - to see other than wandering through the parks. There is a small and nice museum on the north side of town.

It's best to visit it in the summer, if you are not afraid of the hot weather. There is abundance of greens, swimming pools, leisure activities, outdoor cafes and restaurants, delicious cheap food, variety of fresh fruits and vegetables! People are friendly and welcoming!
The beginning of autumn is the best for me, since it's not too hot, but you can still feel the summer, with all that it can offer!
Very good location for families with smaller children, amusement park for children on the opposite side of the road. Right next door is located Marlen a patisserie with great option there is also a shashlyk place next door though we did not try that. The Shymkent plaza is in walking distance 15-20 mins. The ladies at the reception were very kind and polite the gentleman can learn some of it yet. The cleaning lady was very nice, always asking us on the corridor what we need. In overall a great experience for great value.
Spacious clean,Ac delux room at best price at great location. The reception has hospitable efficient English person round the clock. I had a smooth check in at 3 am early morning and check out early 5 am the next day. The reception people have helped me getting taxi, given good advice for trips. The complimentary breakfast was great and also wide variety of food in restaurant menu...most recommended hotel for people visiting Shymkent...
Very friendly and educated host. He gave a lot of valuable insights on the city and beyond. Excellent location right in the centre of the city with many currency exchange offices right at outside the building. It is a flat type hotel with a private bathroom and kitchen. Well thought through power sockets and stable wifi connection at least in my room, which was enough for video calls. Nice wide double bed.

This hostel deserves more rating, yes maybe there is not atmosphere but that is because Shymkent is not touristic or attracting backpackers as Almaty. However the location and the facilities are amazing, and the staff helpful and nice. The hostel is huge with plenty space to seat or chill.
