There isn't a great deal to do here.
There isn't a great deal to do here. The city has parks and the city centre is neat and tidy, so you can relax. Also November probably isn't a good month, so in the summer the parks will be in bloom. Almost nobody seems to speak English which can be frustrating when you want information about travel, for example. The Visit Shymkent offices are invariably closed (either near Shymkent Plaza or in the Grand Hotel) though if you catch one open, someone will try to help. A trip to Turkestan is just about worth the hassle but arranging transport might be difficult.

Lovely city with friendly people.
Lovely city with friendly people. Lots of cafes, restaurants, and ice cream vendors. It is very hot in summer, but the city is fool of parks and boulevards with trees. It is a great place to explore the south of Kazakhstan, Turkestan is 3 hours away in train.

No tourist info centres. Very little to see in terms of sights. Nice parks. We stayed a week and it was four days too long.
The red bus leaves from near the Hotel Shymkent. It only operates in the evenings. A trip on it coverers everything - which is hardly anything - to see other than wandering through the parks. There is a small and nice museum on the north side of town.

It's best to visit it in the summer, if you are not afraid of the hot weather. There is abundance of greens, swimming pools, leisure activities, outdoor cafes and restaurants, delicious cheap food, variety of fresh fruits and vegetables! People are friendly and welcoming!
The beginning of autumn is the best for me, since it's not too hot, but you can still feel the summer, with all that it can offer!
Situated in a mall, gives high school vibes. Extremely large facilities, clean and warm. Plenty of spaces to work, hangout or chill. Located next to multiple restaurants, eateries and tourist attractions. Easy to walk to many other tourist sites in Shymkent. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm with private bathroom. Large locker, towels provided, super comfy bed, personal light and socket with clean linen also slippers. Free tea, coffee, hit and cold water. Smoking room Laundry available. This hostel is amazing value for money.
1. The location is absolutely exceptional, it's on main road. & it's quite easily to find.
2. The host & other family members are so helpful. Ms. Yelina is the best host so far. I have visited a lot of hostel or hotel but Ms. Yelina is just fantastic.
3. The host family is just amazing. All the facilities over there including, foods, bath, rest, shower & most interesting thing is shared kitchen.
4. All hotel was so neat & cleaned.

The hotel is modest, but cozy. It's located in a quite place, but I felt a bit cut off the city there, especially in the evenings because the street is not lightened.
However, the bus stations are near and the location is well connected to the city centre.
The room was okay. I liked that there were very big towels and many hooks in the bathroom.
Breakfast was rich and tasty. What was pleasant is that the staff tried to find out ways to offer vegan food for the guest.
Overall, the staff is kind and polite.
This is an excellent hotel, clean, modern and well maintained. The reception staff are professional and helpful - they helped us with some extra information about our trip. The breakfast is big, the food is fresh and good quality. There's parking at the front of the hotel, the location is close to some good dining options - all considered we are very happy to recommend Aidana Plaza hotel for staying in Shymkent.
Located just in front of the Abay Park in the city center, this hotel offers a lot of facilities, such as swimming pool, sauna, fitness room. Unfortunately, the first day of my mother's stay the swimming pool was closed, but the next day she was personally accompanied there by Chief Receptionist, named Aygerim, who was particularly helpful and friendly. The breakfast was hearty and worth the price.
Such a cool Japanese building built after WW2. The owners are incredibly kind, and the design inside is really modern; could be a europe hotel room.
Breakfast was awesome, great food nearby, we extended our stay because it was so great! This will be one of your best hotel stays of the trip.

Although small hotel, you fell like in a big one with much understding from the staff. We asked for a late check out and we were left 2 hrs more than the limit.
It looks like an old hotel from the times of the USSR. Everything is clean, new TV and AC in the room. The room was big, with many drawers to keep all clothes.
