Excellent location. Not far from Fukuoka and we drive all the way from the airport within 2 hours. Best retreat so far and we will definitely go back in different seasons. Driving to places are simple and easy. Can go to mountain hike or the lake areas.

A very lovely town.
A very lovely town.
But too many tourists during the weekend.
Too many Korean tourists, which quite some of them are lack of manners, speaking too too loudly, taking pictures everywhere, dominating the roads while walking with groups...

Yufu is one of those places where the place itself is wonderful but the vibe from other tourists and angry, upset staff members in shops can really darken an otherwise bright experience. It reminded me a lot of Kyoto in that way. The place, the shops, the scenery are all great... but tourists tend to be pushy, demanding, selfish, etc. And this leads many of the staff of establishments to be cold, distant, or upset; and rightfully so. I would like to go back there and spend more time at one of the inns. The staff there are usually very kind and helpful, and the spaces are very comfortable. But the place itself I could take a pass on.

We stay in Yufuin for 2 days, but travel 1 day to Beppu and the other in Yufuin. Yufuin is an absolutely lovely place. Every thing is so cute! And a lot of street food along the way.
The best thing is Onsen Ryokan! Don't miss to enjoy traditional Japanese style accommodation.
The thing I don't like here is that shops mostly close around 5PM, staff (both in hotel and shop) don't really speak English. They will try to explain to you, but in Japanese TT Also, trash bins are hard to find along the street.
I really enjoy the accommodation here, and the city is just too cute. You can take photos in almost every corner. This city is a MUST!

Yufu is not a big town and that is the beauty of this place.
Yufu is not a big town and that is the beauty of this place. The main shopping street Yunotubo is cosy and easy to stroll. There are many good cafes along the way. We enjoyed very much cafe Pepper and Anahata. Watch out for unusual snow that blocked the highway from Hakata to Yufuin. Otherwise it is easy to get to.

The traditional Japanese dinner is incredible!
The traditional Japanese dinner is incredible! I like Japanese food and the food we had there is definitely the best ever. The traditional Japanese breakfast was great too.
Location is good too.
We plan to come back next year with more family members!
Even though the Hotel feels kinda dated when you first step into it, the hotel room is very big in size and feels really spacious. When checking in, the staff was really friendly as well and they proceeded to guide me through the check in process. I also have to pay for the onsen fee (it's considered an onsen town after all) which I didn't mind. The view from the hotel room is awesome as well.
When checking out, I was given a candy and a farewell postcard as well with the photo of the hotel! Overall a very pleasant stay at the hotel.
The view is wonderful. You can see the mountain while soaking in the onsen in room. Room size is good and TV has YouTube channel. The staff speaks good English too. I reached Yufuin station at 4.50pm and wanted to take a taxi to the hotel. However there were so few taxi there. I called the hotel and they are so kind to send a transport to pick us up although I have missed the scheduled shuttle service time. Dinner and breakfast plan is good although it will be nice if there were more sashimi and beef.
Room was spacious and clean. There was a nice seating area with a nice mountain view in the room. Staff was friendly and helpful. There was welcoming tea when we arrived at the hotel. A nice gesture. It takes about 4-5 min walk from Beppu station to the hotel but all along flat terrain. So, it's not an issue. Both dinner and breakfast were good. The indoor onsen was very hot, but the outdoor one was comfortable and relaxing. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay.
We spent 2 nights here. Staying at Garakuchin completes Japanese old style house living desire.
-Wonderful private Onsen is available. Two types to choose.
-Staff is very helpful and his english is very good. He offered us the service to drive to train station. That really helps saving our time and energy!
-Room is clean and comfortable
-Nice weather with great adventure while walking ~1 km from Yufuin station to the hotel.
The hotel was built up in the hill, and the room we booked has a pretty view overlooking the city plus a private onsen. Dinner and breakfast were included with a very reasonable price comparatively with all other Yufuin properties. Dinner was unexpectedly great, not only the variety but also the tastes were absolutely delicious. They were willing to substitute other meat instead of fish for me and I really appreciate that!!
Shimizu Ryokan was a peaceful oasis. Our room was spacious, quiet and overlooked a beautiful garden. Shimizu san, his daughter and sister welcomed us and made sure we had everything we needed to have a relaxing visit. We were able to use both the public and the private onsen. They were spotlessly clean and well-appointed and the water was luxuriously hot! The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were both delicious.
Very spacious, the room has 2 storey, upper level comes with a 2-bed bedroom and a toilet. Lower level is the living room, toilet, indoor onsen with shower. There is an outdoor private onsen next to the mini garden. The hotel is right next to the famous lake, which is very good if you would like to get up in early morning to see the mist on lake. The onsen is very comfortable, worth spending more time in it.
Location was really convenient and near the scenic spots. In Yufuin. Got very wonderful experience for private onsen bathings twice. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious in the restaurant. Staff were nice and helpful and the overall service was excellent. Price was reasonable. Highly recommended for tourists.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, we needed to be transferred to the train station and the owner was more than happy to help. Dinner and breakfast was included during our stay and it was delicious. The onsens were also delightful. I would highly recommend this inn to anyone that stays in Yufuin.
Beverages in room was free of charge. 3 perrier btls, 6 cans of beer/Chu-hi and 5 cans of juices.
own private onsen in garden was a bliss.
rm was big enough for 4 pax ( 2 beds and 2 futons) .
loved the fusion food served for dinner and breakfast.
had pick up and send off to Yufuin station
Excellent breakfast
Very friendly staff
Excellent location (half a minute walk from Yufuin high street)
Free parking
Very nice and clean modern building.
Very clean onsen (you can lock the door of onsen, so it is kind of a private onsen!)
Overall is very worth for every yen we paid. 3 big rooms with exceptional facility especially private onsen. Great for relaxing in Yufuin. Thanks for this good experience.
Great stay at Ryokan Yufusan! Loved that we had our own private onsen in the room. Dinner and breakfast was delicious. The view of Yufu mountain from our room was spectacular
Staff are very nice, helpful and friendly.
Private onsen is clean and spacious.
The location is not far from the sightseeing spots like floral village or Kinrin lake.
The soup quality of the public onsen is good. It smooth our skin. However, it’s not the same quality in the private onsen which I spent most of the time there.
