Great to have an onsen and small area to relax as rooms are claustrophobic - like all “affordable” Japanese hotels! VERY VERY CONVENIENT for travellers.

We were in Kanazawa two nights and spent a whole day looking around the castle and Kenkoeun gardens. So tranquil and beautiful. We did a tea ceremony in the gardens which was also a highlight. There are lots of little souvenir shops close by.
The Loop bus is a cheap (800yen) way to get around. Kanazawa, getting on/off as you want.

Go to the gold leaf store where you can do a workshop for an hour at a very reasonable price
Spend time in beautiful Kanazawa station downstairs at the zen garden.
Kenrokuen garden is lovely for a walk or to sit for a while. There is a very reasonable cafe with a view and airconditioning.
The fish market is very interesting and more authentic than in Tokyo.

Kanazawa was a breath of fresh air to escape the city life...
Kanazawa was a breath of fresh air to escape the city life in Tokyo. We stayed for 2 nights, there was enough time to check out all the attractions we had on our list.
Visit Omicho market in the morning or early afternoon, the shops close in the late afternoon. We visited a local restaurant which was located right at the edge of the market, the food was delicious, and it was full of locals. I had fun shopping around the Higashi Chaya district for local crafts and products, be sure to stop at any of the tea houses for parfaits and soft serves to beat the summer heat!
The Kenrouku Gardens had an amazing variety of trees, do not miss this landscape masterpiece.
Nomura Samurai house had a beautiful Koi pond garden, it was a nice place to stay for about 30 mins to 1 hour. Having visited Nijo Castle in Kyoto later, the scale of the samurai house was a little small but provided real life context of the hierarchical differences.
We also enjoyed the 21st Century Contemporary Museum with the pool installation, be sure to make a reservation for the pool in the morning of your visit! They will not allow you to visit if you did not make a separate booking.
Food: Do check out Turban Curry for mouthwatering local Kanazawa Curry and Noburu Ramen for a popular sardine broth ramen (if you visit, highly recommend buying peaches in the huge supermarket beside... full of juicy sweetness! This was in late July.)
Tip: Look out for an attraction pass at the Kanazawa Station, they bundle several attractions (21st Museum, Kenrouku etc.) for 1,000 yen, definitely worth the price. I believe this pass is not available on sites like Klook, so it was a nice discovery for us. You have to purchase the pass online yourself (the QR codes and posters are plastered everywhere in their tourist information counter in the train station); they do not sell the passes at the Kanazawa station.

The gardens and castle ruins are beautiful.
The gardens and castle ruins are beautiful. Also the samurai and geisha districts are worth seeing. Busses are convenient and make it easy to get around. Not as crowded as other destinations in Japan.

I stayed at Mikiwa about 30 mins on local train from kanazawa. Very small town.
I stayed in June and it was hot. The beach is interesting because there is a lot of sea trash washed up - fascinating really.
There is a family mart and a mini supermarket in town. Probably more but I wasn't up for exploring because unfortunately I was unwell during my stay and couldn't do much but walk on the beach. Had I been well I might have gone into kanazawa to look around.
The room I had was very comfortable and I was able to rest and recuperate. I think had I been well my stay might have been a bit long, but if you are looking for respite from the bustling cities in Japan it might just be the place for a break.
This was a great little hotel during our few days in Kanazawa. It’s right in the Highashi Chaya district, which is lovely to wander around, and not too long a walk from major tourist sites (Kanazawa Castle, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, and my favorite, Kenroku-en). The washer-dryer in the room worked great and was a nice bonus, and we appreciated the online guides to all of the room’s gadgets. We never figured out the tub, but loved it nonetheless! Breakfast was more western-style than Japanese, but still very good.
A run of the mill hotel with slightly bigger rooms from a Japanese perspective.
Location was excellent in terms of public transport ,the main train station, upon leaving main exit the hotel building could be seen with its signage up high on the hotel building line. Also located in walking distance to/from Kanazawa tourist attractions, market, castle, castle gardens etc. No need to buy tickets for the tourist Loop bus that is advertised in tourist info centre. Beds were good but not great from a comfort point of view.
Beautiful hotel. Tastefully decorated. It was our favourite stay while in Japan. The staff were so lovely. Breakfast was traditional and kept us going for our mornings out walking and sightseeing. The tea and coffee station in the reception area was fabulous. There was nothing we didn't like about Hotel Kanazawa Zoushi!
Lovely little hotel/hostel in Kanazawa. The staff, including Nina were so welcoming and helpful. We stayed in the private room and it was very comfortable. Great air conditioning to save you from Japan’s summer heat.
Right beside Kanazawa station.
Very profession staff, bringing together the expectations of an international hotel chain and Japanese hospitality. Classy decor. Well furnished.
