Breakfast good, good coffee made for you, nice croissants.
My room was very noisy on the ground floor with lorries just outside the window. But very clean if small. No table or chair so it was the bed or nothing. Bedclothes changed very day and spotless. Hot water took 10 minutes to reach the shower!

A goldmine of Greek and Roman heritage, Siracusa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the Necropolis of Pantalica in hills to the north-west.
Siracusa itself has a necropolis within the amazing Neapolis archaeological park, which also houses Roman amphitheatre and altar remains, as well as one of the largest Greek theatres ever built. Legend has it that the site includes the tomb of Archimedes, who was born here.
The ancient Greeks founded the city (also known as Syracuse) and Cicero even considered it the greatest of all. Columns from that period were used to build the Baroque cathedral, and the Fountain of Arethusa dates to the same era. Both are within Ortygia, a walled peninsula jutting into the turquoise Mediterranean Sea. Also here are ruins of the Roman temple of Apollo, and at the tip of the peninsula is the 13th-century Maniace Castle.
The fabulous Siracusa Archaeological Museum houses relics from all these periods, and is located by the Catacombs of Saint John. Opposite them both is the modern conical spire of the Madonna delle Lacrime Sanctuary church.
Aside from all this history, Siracusa also has plenty of pavement cafes and restaurants, and lovely sandy beaches overlooked by luxury hotels, cheap B&Bs and holiday homes available on Booking.com.
Beautiful city! Special surroundings. A very good location to visit both southern Sicily and Mount Etna.
We liked a lot the Archaeological park in Syracuse, Ortigia and Ortigia boat trip. The food was delicious!
Don't miss the orange salad with onions, caponata. Sicilian cassata and pistachio ice cream.

Ortigia is a quaint part of Syracuse.
Ortigia is a quaint part of Syracuse. The town has lots of charm, great restaurants and scenic coastline. If you like a combination of city life and sea front this is the place for you. I could easily spend 4 days there just to let the ambiance sink in. You can walk everywhere in Ortigia in under 20 minutes. There are several beaches to swim and beach bars to relax on the water and listen to music. I would recommend hiring a small boat to take in the view from the water.

The old part of the city is very walkable.
The old part of the city is very walkable. The beaches are a bit crowded but it was hot weather so that was to be expected. We needed an extra day to visit the archaeological remains which were further away.

Ortigia was beautiful, a must see.
Ortigia was beautiful, a must see. A boat trip is definitely worth doing, as well the duomo, the fort. Good restaurants and bars everywhere, reasonably priced. Definitely our favourite place in Syracuse.
The archaeological park is a must see! Amazing place.
We walked or took taxis everywhere, too stressful to drive.

The streets are charming especially on Ortigia but the sights and museums fall short of other cities, including Palermo and Taormina on Sicily and far short of Florence or Sienna on the mainland. Still, having visited all those other places Syracuse was a pleasant place to spend a couple of days. The main archeological site (overly hyped and ruined by a theatre development) and associated museum are far from Ortigia, which means a long hike or waiting for the tiny red minibus 105 if you can find the stop just over the bridge from Ortigia. Seeing the one Caravaggio in Santa Lucia was another hike across the mainland. On Ortigia, the castle was only OK; the Mikveh looked interesting from outside but we hadn't booked the guided tour. The market was excellent (buy some almond biscuits for 12 euros a kilo!) and close to the impressive Temple of Apollo. We ate well (lots of seafood) but missed out on a really good looking restaurant for lack of a reservation. The coach ride from Catania airport was cheap and functional but the taxi touts at the terminal were sharks, I'm afraid.

Very nice town. We had fun walking around.
Very nice town. We had fun walking around. Beautiful to walk around at night time. Felt safe there. La Fustella was a great leather goods store and everything was made on site. Prices were very good. We also found some paintings on parchment paper at Galleria Bellomo. There is great street food and beautiful sea views.
Beautifully designed rooms in an excellent location, within 15 minutes walking you're in Ortigia but it's also doable to walk the other way to the Greek Theatre instead. A simple but absolutely lovely and delicious breakfast, especially the granita was a highlight for both of us. Our room also had the most pleasant AC we've experienced in Sicily as we could keep it on at night against the heat without being bothered by the sound or feeling of cold winds. When we come back to Siracusa, we definitely plan to stay here again!
We spent one week in this nice spacious renovated apartment within walking distance from the main attractions in Siracusa. The owner is super kind and answers promptly to any questions or needs you may have.
Parking is never an issue. Fiber Optic internet connection is great. The house walls are pretty thick so expect the WiFi signal to be weaker when getting further away from the router.
AC is a must in the hot summer Sicily weather and it worked perfectly.
We'll be back here next time we are in Siracusa!
The property owner was there to meet us when we arrived; very kind and helpful. The apartment is nice and very clean. It is set in the central area of Siracusa, less than 20 seconds walk from one of the charming narrow streets of the ancient city. Shops, restaurants, bars, and museums are all over the place, The apartment is also a few minutes walk from the promenade which is down the road from the apartment. All considered the lodging is perfect for a family stay in one of Sicily's beautiful cities.
Truly one of the best apartments I have ever rented on booking. Pietro and Loredana are so hospitable, kind, and thoughtful. The setting in Ortigia is so unique- an ancient apartment with modern touches, close to the water, and the apartment is somehow incredibly temperate (even though it is so hot outside in the summer). Sitting in the courtyard, I could hear distant church singing every evening.
I am so grateful I got to stay here. I felt more comfortable here than anywhere else in Sicily.
The host was exceptionally helpful. We were at the close of 3 weeks in Sicily and a bit tired. His aid with location a driver, finding restaurants and local spots of interest, and clarifying any questions we had about the room made our stay easy and fun as we explored Ortigia, a beautiful small island with some of the major historic sites in Siracusa. If you want the ambiance of a valued traveler being hosted in an authentic Siracusa home, this accommodation is for you!
The property was simply divine. Located in the heart of Ortigia, and nestled between patisseries, restaurants and the bustling market, Suites of the Royal Council is a boutique hotel where you must stay at least once in your life.
The hosts were wonderful, helpful and kind. The use of their private solarium was a wonderful surprise and added to the enjoyment of our trip.
We will return next time we are in Sicily - hopefully next year.
Love Ben and Melissa
Good value for money, only a 15 min walk from Ortigia Island and 20 min walk from the Archeological Park. Free public parking is available on the street of the location.
We booked 4 apartments, which were clean and had everything you could need (toiletries, facilities, AC, hair dryer, etc.)
The hosts at the reception were very welcoming and provided us recommendations of beaches around Syracuse as well as two sun parasols to use free of charge.
We had a lovely stay in this B&B. The hosts Sandra & Piero are people with a heart of gold that have one goal: make you feel comfortable and give you an unforgetable stay in Siracusa. The room was great, the view amazing and the breakfast fantastic! On top of that, the B&B is very well located at a 5 min walk to the historic city center of Ortigia. Definitely a place we will recommend to anybody going to Sicily & Siracusa!
We have been traveling all around Italy for many years. For 1 week we also have been all around Sicily. This is the best apartment we have ever been to. If we ever go again to Siracusa there is no other place we would stay. Location is fine. The apartment itself is absolutely gorgesous. The host was soooooo nice, although the whole communication was only via Whatsapp. Dont hesisate rent this apartment!!!
The apartment was just beautiful with stunning views. Waking up every morning to sunrise over the ocean was special. We squeezed on the balcony in the kitchen to eat our breakfast watching Ortigia wake up. Elisa was a great host checking in on us. Well equipped with lots of thoughtful touches. It's situation is perfect for walking around Ortigia and Syracuse. We miss it!
Sabrina was amazing. She was accommodating, friendly, efficient, helpful and always available.
In addition, the apartment was spacious, clean, well situated, and had all the necessary appliances and furniture. The apartment also had a spacious terrace. It was by far the best apartment in terms of value in Sicily .
We were on the bicycle tour around the Sicily and from 10 booked places this was the best. Amazing local vibe, tarrace on the rooftop, balcony with wonderful view. Ermes Siracusa is in the historic centre but still very quiet. I recomend from all my heart :-)
Great location, the room was really comfortable, and the breakfast (with a view on the sea) excellent ! Great hosts, who gave us a lot of advice on things to do in Syracuse and in Sicily in general! Would return there without a doubt for our next time there.
The owner is very friendly and helpful, as are the staff. She has good knowledge of the area including Siracusa and good local restaurants. She also speaks at least 3 languages, if not more! Best owner/host we met on our road trip in Sicily.
Henry's House is a beautiful property, lovingly cared for. The welcome and service throughout our stay were outstanding. The breakfast is one of the best in Sicily. The views are exquisite and the location is perfect.
We had a very nice stay. Informative and helpful host, decent location and good value for money. Nice breakfast! (which speaking from experience varies a lot in Sicily and Italy in general). Would reccomend
Very nice quality Apt., comfortable, clean and located in the most enjoyable part of Sicily. Wonderful owners that are so helpful to make your visit a special holiday. Best part of Italy!
The hotel is everything that you expect from Sicily, it fits with the look and feel of the old baroque buildings and monuments while offering all the needs of the modern time.
Best b&b in Sicily so far. Comfortable, clean and super convenient location. Delicious home made breakfast and the most passionate host you'll ever come across.
